zeroed. this recording was confirmed but we need another person (besides the recorder) to respond to verify it's ok before this score is reinstated. he has a 400k recording, that mentions F10 screws it up, but i doubt everyone didn't try using simple fs0 and throttle first before posting here... i'll try it later but i don't have my hopes up, 62 is a bitch. There is one confirmed bug in playing back things with analogue controls...

well both these the 400k and the 250k played back perfectly as long as i had fs0. You CANNOT press pause when playing back mame62 games with analogue controls, it will freak up the playback. but i was able to unthrottle these with F10 and it still played back ok (fs0 is important.)
Do you guys have the chd files? you need a 500 meg chd file to get the game to work right, but just stating the obvious.

I would assume that Area 51 is a lightgun game, not an analogue game. But yes, lightgun games definitely do freak if the frameskip is changed, or pause is pushed during playback.

ok, dumb question. What is this CHD file you guys are talking about? I don't have it, and I am getting the error stating so. Do I need this for lightgun games?

you don't need the chd for light gun games specifcally (and i thought a light gun control was analogue, i.e. requies more than just 4/8 way directional movement input) but a couple of these new standups (area51 maximum force, and another) have cd worth of terrain stored in the game, thus each has a multi-100 meg chd file (proly in some video format) that mame can use to explore the terrain while you shoot.
i'll try these on win98, to see if that's the cause for bad playback. Might also not playback if at fs0 it's not 100% when you play it back. I know kfx has win98 and i've gotten it to work on xp only so far.

CHD = Compressed Hard Disk. It's a dump of the original arcade game's HD. They vary in size from 420MB (War Gods) to around 3GB (Maximum Force Duo, I think)

Thanks for the answer. I guess I will have to steer clear of these games as my HD is overflowing already at this point LOL!
