ok, i've put up a 3rd place
score for time pilot '84 (tp84)..

492900

but i only got to level 10, whereas
most others got to level 20 or 25
for that score...

what follows are details about it..


time pilot '84 background
=======================
1) horizontal 2d shooter, freedom of movement, circular..
however you remain in the center of the screen at all
times..

2) weapons, regular fire, and auto-target missiles (2)

3) much like the regular time, you must eliminate a number
of enemies to get to the boss, which you kill with a missile
to get to the next level..

NORMALLY YOU AVERAGE 20k per board,
so if you finish 30 levels, you have about 600k...
remember that..

exploits
--------------------------
1) the classic time pilot exploit can be modified for use..
originally you could stay on any board, not kill enemies,
and rack up points by collecting parachuting men
continuously..(1k/2k/3k/etc..)....

in this version, you get formations of 5 special enemies
to kill, and get 1k/2k/3k/3k etc...

so theoretically you could only kill these...HOWEVER,
THESE COUNT TOWARDS advancing, so eventually
you have to get to the boss...

using this method works up until level 6, where
its too hard to do..

i can average 80k-100k per board...so that
means BY LEVEL 6, you could have 600k

NOTE: HOWEVER THIS IS VERY HARD TO DO,
AS YOU MUST DODGE BULLETS AND ENEMIES
CONTINUOUSLY

****remember you can NOT stay in one place..****

so hopefully, this does not count as 'leeching',
but rather maximizing..

2) you could modify the technique after level 6,

DONT SHOOT ANY GREEN ENEMIES with the
regular lasers, only kill enemies with MISSILES...

NOTE : HOWEVER, THIS IS ALMOST AS HARD,
BECAUSE YOU STILL HAVE TO DODGE BULLETS,
AND ENEMIES...

3) you could stay on the first board FOREVER,
and NOT SHOOT ANYTHING...but that also
means you have 0 points....not too exciting..

without wathcing your inp it's hard to say. based on the description I'd say you are in a gray area.

How long does it take you to complete a time and get and destroy the boss?
It seems to me it isn't much different versus leeching parachutes delaying the completion of a stage as long as possible to max points. Although you can do the parachute trick forever I guess....however even for regular play, if you delayed and got like 10 parachutes some would call that leeching to just boast your score.

In this case though you are shooting groups of enemies so it's different. I remmeber playing the game myself and being quite good at it having a score like 350k.

I tried it briefly in mame but it doesn't work very well using keyboard so I'll have to configure my joystick thumbpad for that one I think to make movement easier....hopefully.
