This game can be played with 2 or 4 tanks (not 3 ... strange) ; older dip were 4 tanks, now it's 2
As the game is funny but hard, I think we could keep 4 tanks ; what is your opinion, guys ?

I think for a game like this whatever the default MAME settings are should prevail. If that means you get lesser number of men using win61 versus an older mame version...I guess there isn't much you can do about that.
I have seen other games where older versions of MAME were used cuz the default MAME settings are easier versus if they played it in 0.60 or 0.61 versions of mame.
The only way to handle that would be to have "special rules" for almost every game which tell the settings you are to use which might mean the default MAME settings for some versions but not for others.
I have found for a couple games even how the dip siwtch settings are described is different which makes you wonder. I think in those cases the relative bit positions mean the exact same thing, but just are termed differently.

timmykins didn't get a chance to vote with in the week (must have been sleeping :) so that would have put the vote 50/50. Which means nothing can be done (not >66%).
There is no written rule for when mame changes default settings but a logical rule would be to keep the settings from previous versions, since mame can change versions often and we would want to change marp recordings every time the settings change. However this rule sort of assumes more people have made recordings with previous versions than new versions, this is NOT the case with pulsar. Plus when phil's 2 tank score is 20k and timmikins 2 tank score is 30k.... it makes it hard for me to ask 2 people to record (one of which voted for 4 lives anyway) just so one person can keep his score, but those are the rules for now.
The default settings from m33b4 will stand. 4 lives will be used, timmikins and diabolik can re-record with 4 tanks and better their scores.
