Puzzle Bobble - vs [Split]

I've noticed that nearly all of the high scores for "Puzzle Bobble - vs" games are owned by players who played the 'Practice mode'.

I think the practice mode ought to be made a split, as this mode is easier to play than the normal/hard modes, and (in Puzzle Bobble 2, atleast) you play against different characters in the practice mode).

It's great that players like Donut and Innuendo have shown us how to get great scores in the practice mode. Thanks guys. But, to me, a high score in the practice mode is just a matter of knowing how to build up a mega bonus by dropping lots of bubbles - not by knowing how to defeat each enemy. Of course, you need to drop loads of bubbles in Normal mode too, but you also need to stay alive!

Dropping a mega bundle of bubbles is not so easy in Normal mode, due to the increase in difficulty, and even though in theory it should be possible to surpass the Practice mode scores, no-one has achieved it yet (and if they do, the achievement would, IMO, be far greater than achieveing the same in Practice mode.

Because of the many Practice mode entries, I feel that a lot of players are put off playing the Normal Mode, as they feel that it would be too difficult to outmatch the Practice Mode score.

To try and prove my point, here are the high scores for some "Puzzle Bobble - vs" games:

* pbobble2-vs
- 1st - Donut - 31,842,760 [Practice Mode]
- 2nd - Innuendo - 26,264,370 [Practice Mode]
- 3rd - Phil Lamat- 17,861,540 [Normal Mode]

* pbobble3-vs
- 1st - Innuendo - 31,797,030 [Practice Mode]
- 2nd - Donut - 26,166,640 [Normal Mode]
- 3rd - Phil Lamat - 23,529,670 [Normal Mode]

* pbobble4-vs
- 1st - Donut - 31,990,750 [Practice Mode]
- 2nd - Innuendo - 26,619,220 [Practice Mode]
- 3rd - Phil Lamat - 21,336,950 [Normal Mode]

* pbobbl2j-vs
- 1st - Donut - 31,822,810 [Practice Mode]
- 2nd - Innuendo - 31,500,740 [Normal Mode]
- 3rd - Phil Lamat - 23,749,700 [Normal Mode]

* pbobbl2n-vs
- 1st - Donut - 31,596,120 [Practice Mode]
- 2nd - Phil Lamat - 31,570,050 [Practice Mode]

- 1st - Phil Lamat - 32,987,050 [Normal Mode]
- 2nd - Donut - 10,625,010 [Normal Mode]

* pbobbl2x-vs
- 1st - Donut - 31,907,680 [Practice Mode]
- 2nd - Phil Lamat- 31,684,360 [Practice Mode]
- 3rd - Innuendo - 22,489,600 [Practice Mode]

Can I change my vote from "Yes, Split Practice & Normal modes" to "Yes, split and also Split Hard difficulty".

I originally voted pesimistically, not realising how popular the splitting of the hard difficulty would be.

Just under half way through the 15 day voting period now and the voting stands at:
Yes, split and also split Hard difficulty: 6
No, no splits requires: 2

Please keep voting.

Kranser.

I know that there is a split fever by these days, but why not add to the poll "banning use of practice mode" ?

Even if I love this game, I'm not really for splitting everything : a practice entry would give tons of inp between 31500000 and 32000000, that's all ... no interest IMO

good idea

Good idea Phil.

If anyone else thinks that this is the way to go, please post here and I'll make another topic (and Poll) for this. It's unfair to add it to the current poll.

The only problem that I see is that there are many practice records already on MARP - is it fair to vote for them all to be disqualified?

BTW Phil, congratulations on beating the Practice mode score in Normal mode - even though this has only been achieved in the Neo-Geo version (though, I bet it took a lot more effort to do than in practice mode!)

I agree with what you said about Practice mode entries - they are, IMO, rather quick and boring always with a massive 30mill score.

Kranser.

Then it comes down to who can tweak out the score the most. Speaking for someone who's going to run for a very tweaked out 922,810 in Ms. Pac Man Turbo this Saturday, I can see the fun in trying to beat the listed high score.

I'm in agreement that Easy mode needs to be split out.

No Split

As per *PL*'s comment, voting for the split in difficulty levels is now closed. No split will take place :(

I will open a new POLL to disallow the Practice mode recordings on the Puzzle Bobble (Vs.) games.

Kranser.

DEFCON=6

My opinion is "not split. because Practice mode does not make 33+ million. and it is not enough to beat Normal Mode Score."

I have upload 72+ million of this. It is impossible score for practice players.

I must say that I agree with this. I was totally unaware that sure a large score could be accomplished in Normal Mode.

Now, I know that with a lot more effort, players can reach higher scores.

Though, I still don't think that a 30mil score in Practice mode is equilivent (in effort required) to a 30mil score in Normal mode.

Do you think that we should keep the existing Practice recordings, but make a rule that no more can be submitted, or leave it up to the individual to decide which mode of difficulty they want to record in?

Things are changing now.
Practice scores are beaten one after another forever.
I think ,we should re-do the voting.

it's ok hisa: pat and kranser closed this poll, no new practice split poll was created and and no split was made, mostlikely because of your related uploads.
