Was talking to someone, a question about pausing in an INP..

Well, I was talking to this guy, and he was wondering if you are allowed to pause during an INP, then pick the game back up at a later time (i.e., just leave it paused until he gets back from whatever he is doing). Is this legal, or what is up with this? In the past I have submitted recordings with maybe a minute pause, and they were confirmed. Just wanted an actual ruling on this.

Pause is not allowed at all on recordings that are uploaded to MARP.
I don´t think that there are any exceptations.

Only problem is the pause is not recorded. So we gotta take your word for it.

it is recorded in secure mame versions, if you suspect someone of this please ask them to remove their recording and redo it in a secure version of mame (currently there's only a few secure ones m35tg3 is the main one, a new one (as always) is in the works for a more recent version of mame.)
Fuck, I will pause Tron!

If, and when I get back to scoring heavily at Tron, I
will allow myself couple/3 smoking breaks about 10 minutes long each during the game...It distracts my concentration, but whatta hell I NEED my fix...
Explanation: I did it at funspot too. It's possible to "park" your tank in corner at red recognizer tank levels, and take a break...this works at an arcade, and is easy to accomplish. After about 5 or something minutes the game makes an annoying high-pitch noice.
So there are few exeptions imho, like Tron, Mspacman(holdspot), Galaga, these games that can be "paused" at an arcade too.
I do disagree having like hour or 5 hour breaks though...You couldn't do that in an arcade either(or could you?).
Then again, this is mame, not arcade...only virtual one, and pause is sometimes fine feature, if you're disturbed big time. This subject has been conversated at old message board earlier, don't make your own rules Anders

I thought we'd agreed there was an exception for when you absolutely MUST answer the phone or such.

i agree, all we can do is ask the person doing the quiz game to record another in a secure version. This was once called a "challenge" but not a lot of people are brave enough to ask, the potential offender. Actually the only challenge i was aware of is when the editors asked Hisa to do a m35tg3 recording and it passed with flying secure colors. I also would recommend waiting to ask untill we have a more recent version of a secure mame that is less hackable as m35tg3. But be prepared to wait a while, a secure mame isn't easy to do and harder to finalize.
