Goal difference?

Post by Master Peter »

Hi again,

Is it possible to include goal difference in Tehkan World Cup when
calculating the MARP score? For example, a 4-1 should be equivalent
to a 3-0, and not to a 4-0.

Any comments? Thanks in advance!

PS Thanks for the upload info Kale, you are the best!

It would be, but consider that time taken for an opponent to score is
time lost for you to score. So such a change would essentially be
unnecessary, and high end scores will reflect this.

If this isn't a satisfactory excuse, talk to Pat Laffaye and he can
bring the issue to a vote. However, we tend to only modify scoring
rules at MARP when current scores are leading to a series of ties for
first place. Since a modification isn't really necessary for this
game (and makes the scoring system more complex) I would recommend
against it. Consider the difference between this game (a multiple
round game) and games like Goalie Ghost or Off the Wall (Sente)
(single round games) where scores are much closer.

Then again, we could consider a general modification along these
lines for all sports games at MARP, but that will mean remodifying a
few hundred scores (again). Maybe this is an idea we should consider,
but as a future change...?

Hope this answers your question.

In Tehkan World Cup it is actually possible to gain some valuable
seconds by "letting" the computer score a goal.
It is faster to have your player starting a new attack from the
kick off than waiting for the goalkeeper block, pick up and kick
the ball (and this is without having the ball reaching the centre
yet!)
Therefore, yes, it is an advantage! (especially for the last stages)
And yes, I could use it for breaking my existing record, but it
doesn't seem to be a fair thing to do.

More specifically, we are talking about 4 to 8 (depending on the case)
extra valuable seconds.

Hope this helps! :)

Goal difference is ALREADY COUNTED on marp in ALL soccer games
including tehkanwc (see "special rules") ; I was aware that, in
several games, letting your opponent score was better to increase your
own total of goal scores, which is of course not the real spirit of
soccer ! So a few monthes ago I watched (with the help of Pat & Skito)
all soccer inputs and we changed all scores COUNTING goal difference

I wish the next step will be on other sports games where defence has
also to be counted IMO (like basket or baseball)
