Pacmania question
What is the rank A, B, C, D ?

Re: Pacmania question
In Namco games, the Rank option is Difficulty. Not sure if Rank A is harder or easier though, so best to stick with the default.

Re: Pacmania question
In Pacmania the first player has changed rank from B to C.
If C means easier, then you 'll delete it?

Re: Pacmania question
I think it might be harder difficulty, but I'm sure there are Namco experts here that know for sure.

Re: Pacmania question
Well... a quick Google search for Pac-Mania manual, resolves this nicely.mahlemiut wrote:I think it might be harder difficulty, but I'm sure there are Namco experts here that know for sure.
Rank A - Easy
Rank B - Standard
Rank C - Hard
Rank D - Very Hard
according to the manual, Rank C is the Manufacturers recommended setting. But then again, when the games load, it's shown as a default of Rank B.
So at least in this case, we can assume either the manual is a later revision, or it was merely suggestion to operators and shipped out as Rank B by default [which is usually the case since it's Standard difficulty, and manufacturers tend to suggest higher to bring more money in]
Just a gaming junkie looking for his next High Score fix.
Re: Pacmania question
Do note that the game controls what the default is, there are no DIP switches for game settings.

I made a google search too, but I found nothing. Are you sure that the info you found is for the arcade version?
I wonder why someone would choose to use Rank C.
Exept of course if Rank C helps him to make a bigger score.
So the question is, what exactly is the difference between Rank B and Rank C

Re: Pacmania question
Pac-man will gradually lose jumping power over time.
at higher rank, losing quicker.
higher rank has higher rank enemies like high jump monster elder common.
higher rank may have many enemies. (it is big advantage for score because enemy attack will score 400-1600-7650-7650-7650....)
higher rank, enemies algorithm changes. more difficult but sometimes it is advantage for higher score.
power food time may changes.
sorry I do not have detail data.
at most of namco game. second easiest rank is default if it has 4 rank.
and forth easiest rank is default if it has 8 rank.

I just noticed these lines. Its important info!Novice wrote:Pac-man will gradually lose jumping power over time.

Yes, pacman gradually loses jumping power over time.
This means that player "Super Supreme" changed rank from B to C in order to make his game easier.
So mods, are you going to delete it?

Are you sure that going from Rank B (Standard) to Rank C (Hard), or in other words going to a higher rank, actually makes the game easier?PP. wrote:I just noticed these lines. Its important info!Novice wrote:Pac-man will gradually lose jumping power over time.

If so, in what way does making that change make the game easier, for example does losing the jumping power sooner actually help in this game in some way due to jumping power being of negative benefit in this game?

A is higher than B, B is higher than C etc.BeeJay wrote: Are you sure that going from Rank B (Standard) to Rank C (Hard), or in other words going to a higher rank, actually makes the game easier?

This means that Rank C is easier than Rank B.
If rank C makes pacman lose jumping ability later as Novice said, this means a much easier game.

[*] A may come alphabetically before B, B before C, et al.PP. wrote:A is higher than B, B is higher than C etc.

[*] A may appear above B in the settings.
But neither of those statements, while true, mean the C is an easier setting than the default B setting. Most of the Namco games I've played are A = Easiest and D = Hardest, at least on those games with 4 difficulty settings, and I'm assuming that they wouldn't suddenly change the way their difficulty settings have normally worked. Further to this, the following scan from the manuals for the arcade version of Pacmania confirm that they did indeed stick with their usual difficulty settings:
Cheers,
BeeJay.
Re: Pacmania question
Let's come to the point,
as time passes in a stage, you lose your jumping ability(jump goes smaller).
If Rank C means that you lose this ability later than in Rank B, then Rank C is easier.

Is this manual from the arcade version? Don't forget that we're talking only for mame.Pac-mania manual scan - settings.png (599.51 KiB) Viewed 20 times

I'm pretty sure a home version wouldn't have a "cabinet type" option...PP. wrote:Is this manual from the arcade version? Don't forget that we're talking only for mame.
