It loads up the roms just fine, but after I press OK it just goes to a black screen. I have tried both the gui version and running it from a dos prompt, I have tried all kinds of adjustments in MAME but nothing works.
I am using vista 32 bit as OS.
Screen looks like this:

You need to hit the enter key on your keyboard to get past this screen.

What you can also do is, from your MAME main interface window,
choose Options --> Default Game Options --> Miscellaneous -->
and then tick the "Skip game info" box. The result is no more black (or blue) screens for all or most games. I'm not sure but possibly some games will still present you with the 'info' box, also i think there might be games which don't load properly with that particular default setting switched off.
However that's not a problem, because this same option can also be set per romset, by right-clicking on a game/rom name, choosing Properties, and then same as above Miscellaneous & Skip game info. Hope this is useful...

How can you have over 400 posts on here and not know how to use mame?

You have 354 posts yourself, what's your excuse?

kfx is finally back on MARP after an almost 8 year hiatus (his last forum post was on 3/27/05), which pre-dates wolf106 which has this defect by more than a year. So kfx had a pretty good excuse for asking the question.
