Leaderboard removal ?

Before launching a vote, I would like to know opinions from all marpers.
Shall we vote ?
If yes, simply a yes/no to the removal ?
Or waiting to see if Zwaxy can fix the "category" option ?

Waiting for opinions.
Mine is that removing the leaderboard would solve (definitively?) the problem.

No need to vote right now. We should at least try to NOT COUNT certain games grouped by category.

I like the leaderboard. My issue is with the gambling games.

A poisoned leaderboard is not useless: it's noxious. The best thing should be archive poisoning titles, and it seems to me that almost everyone here agree.
Let's do begin removing all gambling games now. They have a genre classification in MAME, it's not difficult to identify them.

Then we should vote whether games with 10+ clones or tablegames are poisoning or not.

I'd like to see a reasonable leaderboard, actual one isn't. Let's try to rectify it, otherwise we don't need it

Keep the leaderboard, remove gambling and Mahjong (sorry) from it. Keep the clones.

If you really want to do a decent LB, you have to do a very precise work to the entire database, that is to take best versions of a given game (so nuke any identical clone) and remove gamblers, tabletops, mahjongs, hanafuda, mechanical pinballs, perhaps console-based games (perhaps a bunch of other genres too, quiz games?). Basically, you keep everything that has a replay value to anybody that ISN'T just an editor/confirmer, and more faithful to the "Action Replay" spirit.

You might consider doing Leaderboards per category (so shooters / fighters / platforms / puzzles etc.).

If you remove the Leaderboard I will leave and many others will no longer see the point of posting any scores here .

Leaderboards are just statistics. Too many people lead their lives by statistics instead of the value of the actual thing they do to augment their statistics. Enjoy your gaming and don't be jealous of leaderboard whores. As has been proven time & again, they're here to stay and other leaderboard whores will given them competition.

Some other sites have taken the road of having a higher honour given to those that can hold a 1st position above other competitors vs. joint 1st positions and innaugural submissions. Again, just statistics & you can massage them anyway but leaderboard whores will find the loophole.

Have you ever considered playing *good* at anything rather than just posting crap?

For some, leaderboard whoring is fun. Some don't take this stuff as serious as others and just enjoy playing different games and competing on a leaderboard. Others spend enourmous amounts of time perfecting a few games and think being number one on those few titles is rewarding. Some are casual gamers who will never be good enough to hold a #1 spot on a highly contested title so they compete on other games and the leaderboard. Some are bat shit amazingly tallented who can seemingly destroy a game anytime they put their mind to it. Can't we all just get along and have fund doing our own thing?
