WolfMAME with GUI?

I know I should use WolfMAME, but the problem is getting it to run in Windows since there's no GUI and it's next to impossible to figure out how to get things going. Is there any sort of version of WolfMAME with a GUI? I tried downloading M+GUI, but it didn't work for some reason.

The only difficulty should be typing the name of the game you want to play and that can be found on marp.

mame gamename -record gamename.inp

is that difficult? (oh but really you should use the record.bat file contained in the wolfmame-0XXX.exe download and that even becomes easier)

record.bat gamename

if you know the short gamename, what is difficult about typing this command in the mame directory after running cmd? To record again if you fail in your goal, you need not type this again just escape from mame and then hit the "F3 key" in the cmd window and it will type

record.bat gamename

automatically for you, you press "return" and you are recording again in two steps! Much easier than the three clicks you need to perform at least to start recording again with a gui.

Larcen to answer your question: if you can't get M+ to work there are no other options that I know of.

Larcen, have you tried WolfMameScore? You can download it at:

http://www.arcadehits.net/index.php?p=mame&id=68

It's a version of WolfMAME integrated with the GUI from MAMEUi. It's maintained by Louthrax. Its inps are compatible with WolfMAME. I don't use it, but I've heard others like it and have had good success with it. I've never had any problems getting WolfMameScore recordings to playback in standard WolfMAME.

I just wanted to add that a new WolfMAME with a GUI would be really great. I'm of the opinion that the GUI is way more accessible for new players, and that its ease of use would translate into more submissions.

I'm obviously guessing here, but the lack of a GUI with newer versions of Wolf may be why TG is stuck on .106.

I will continue to use .106 until I see a sweeping transition. Currently it seems to be the most used and thereby the most practical.

That said, I won't be learning MAME development anytime soon, so I'm good with whatever our gracious volunteers produce.

Anyone you wants to produce a version based on MAMEUI are welcome to. The source patches are always available at http://wolfmame.marpirc.net/ I'd just not recommend basing any version on MAME Plus at this time, since INPs are incompatible between MAME and MAME Plus currently. If you must have a MAME Plus like GUI, just use MAMEPGUI, it works with MAME, MESS, SDLMAME and SDLMESS, on WIn32, Linux and OS X.
