POW - Prisoners of War

This would probably be classed infinite leeching, which I'm pretty sure even Gamest doesn't allow... There doesn't appear to be any other form of time limit in this game, unless someone else knows better.

For more points, you really need to do more multi-kills on high scoring enemies. Much more fun to watch. :)

I don't think it could be infinite ,as you can't do it indefinitely !

Once the fourth set of soldiers have passed ,groups of grenades are thrown,so you have to as TG says, "keep advancing"far enough forward to avoid the grenades being thrown by the cpu ,then you can start again all be it at a farther/further forward part of the stage, inevitably you will reach the end of the stage or a part of the stage which flashes the red advance arrow, both of which stop you from points leeching.

And the only really high scoring multi killable enemy i've found so far (seems the cpu will stop the multi kills when you reach the top of the screen though),is that gun toting baldy boss from the last stage, which can also not just be shot dead many times but you can multi kill him a few times with normal attacks,,getting about 10k for each kill.

And that score is old anyway,i put up a better one without any leeching.

Yes, I noticed. I watched it. :)

I do have an INP handy that scores 324k, and did a fair amount of enemy avoidance. I'd say 350k ought to be possible.

Does that replay multi kill that baldy boss on the final stage and could you put the inp here for me to watch ?

There's another strange thing that happens in p.o.w, if you happen to have the gun, then wait for those soldiers to appear on the left of the screen ,when you shoot and kill them ,there will also be the same soldiers come out from the right side of the screen and instantly die ,but you'll get rewarded double the points .

fraser

On a final off topic question, regarding altered beast ( altbeas4) http://marp.retrogames.com/r/altbeas4 , how can i get to see that 1st place replay ,as if i recall correctly i don't think i could get it to play ,as it was wanting some files in the zipped rom which have completely changed since the time that that score was set.

Ok, I've attached it. It's originally from emu-zone (http://replay.ga-la.com), so attaching it here is easier as some people have trouble fumbling around a Chinese website ;)

It should play back in 0.84u2 ok (it did for me).

Yes, he does multi-kill the last boss about 10 times, but as I mentioned earlier, he does avoid a fair amount of enemies completely. Also shows how to do multi-kills without needing the gun.

Thanks for that, that was a joy to watch, played on the top difficulty setting ,exposed a few more of the games many glitches (walking on air )and a great score to boot ,considering the huge amount of deliberate avoidables.

Gives me something to work with .

no infinite leeching in POW, but limitate. Excellent score Fraser, if you use special strategies with last boss, your score increase of 100.000 pts at least.

PS. Fraser, remember your old time attack video on Golden Axe? I'm interested to watch it again (this video is deleted from long time)

God, i forgot about that on youtube,it's long gone that is.

And the special strategy, yeah lots of points, especially if you kill him at least 3 times with normal attacks, then shoot him 12 times, big money ,big prizes ,i love it !

He's back reuploading now. Hey, fraser, if you're watching, great Altered Beast scores! I wanted to ask something. It appears if you are good enough you could get more points by not getting the third power pill from the white wolfs and looping each level before going to the next. I remmeber doing this and the further attempts to remain at the same level make the game go harder. But with you as an expert, Do you think this kind of looping can be done forever and shouldn't be allowed?

Actually you're forced to fight the boss at the end of the third "loop" of each stage, whether you're transformed or not. Even worse, you don't get the full 100k bonus for clearing the stage either. Not worth it.
