Here's an outrun inp by afb recorded in mame32plus109 which as luck would have it works in wolf109 so you can use -iv to see the inputs. It shows the 294kph trick but I'm still pulling my hair out trying to do it. On a fluke I got the boost but didn't get 294kph. Can anyone do it? Wish I could see the analog input for the gas as well since I'm wondering when he punches it, if that makes a difference. The trick might require that the gas be an analog input but I'm not sure (that's what I was using when I got the non-294kph boost).

not exactly sure..but yeah... a combo of gas and gear shifting....think you must be off the gas during the shift then back on a couple cycles....then on or something like that


I never really wanted to play the game that way so didn't seriously develop the technique for doing it...but did it a couple times...back in the 80s.

Woo, alright, got a 293kph boost and thus a 56 for the first leg using digital input for the gas. Don't know if a 55 is possible without the 294. Hope I can get it more regularly soon. Wolfmame106 if anyone wants to see, although even with the gas being digital in this case, since it should be analog the inputs won't show up with -iv.

Got a 56 on the first leg without a boost, which I didn't think was possible. Close examination shows it's a very high 56, over 56.90.

Can do the boost every once in a while now using a combination of my old start technique and the gear shifts. Failure results in my usual start so I can attempt it without repercussion. Still can't hit 294 but I can live with that.

About 40% success rate for the boost now, also got a 55 on the fourth leg even though I hit a car. Could 54 be possible?

Almost had a heart attack when I saw my score on what seemed like an average game. Stupid me, as those of you who have downloaded the previous attached inp's may have noticed, I've been playing on easy, which means an extra 5 seconds. However, in examining that inp I realised that my method of taking a previous final score and just adding a solid million for every whole second I lost isn't entirely accurate. Consequently my theoretical high score goes up a bit.

I've heard that the last leg of course C is supposedly faster than D. The fastest I've seen though is 45.87 (again by afb with offroad, though it doesn't help much but he's going 294 for part of it). However, my new high on the D ending is 45.50 and it could still be better.

Things you notice when playing too much outrun: When turning left the logo on the back of your car flips over. How dare they, suspension of disbelief shattered!

Took a break for a while, lowered last leg to 45.34.

Ooo, now a 45.21 even though I hit the grass at a point I shouldn't have.

45.03, just under 45 should be possible. The real stumbling block is the third leg since you have to be almost perfect to get 55 and there's always a car in the way of the best line. Then if I somehow manage a 55 there, I choke on the comparatively easy fourth leg where braking multiple times still yields a 55.

Finally got a 54 on the fourth leg, another barrier I didn't think was possible. Hit the rough a little bit and still had time to spare, around 54.75. I told myself that 55 would be acceptable but now I'm thinking I want the 54.
