(That's not quite clearly expressed, but this means that Phoenixa is the new romset, while phoenixb is the centuri one with old scores.)

So current recordings at phoenixa should be under phoenixb.

Recently submitted Gabriel.cn claims first place with hes score of 4930 on phoenixa. (Gabriel's score stays at phoenixa)

Added special rules to phoenixa, it must be recorded using wolf111 or later...because that set was not at MAME on earlier versions.

Solid looking 200k at 2-2 there, I wonder if that was intended? If that can be triggered each time it will make taking 200k at that stage way more easy.

moved, forgot the version thingy. i've gotten several triple birds in earlier recordings that didn't get the 200k, i'm afraid i don't understand that well yet. will try a wolf111 one.

I know this site isn't exactly dedicated to arcade hardware, but I'm wondering of someone might be able to help me understand the differences between Centuri set 1 & Centuri set 2 from an arcade PCB standpoint? Any help, that anyone could lend, I'd sure appreciate!

How might one identify the different boardsets (can this be done visually)?

Were both versions released under valid license, or is set 2 a bootleg/unauthorized version?

Most likely, they'll be different code revisions. Later revisions often contain bug fixes and slight gameplay tweaks (usually difficulty). Unless there's some obvious markings on the ROMs, then it can be hard to figure out which is revision is which without dumping the ROMs yourself and comparing to the MAME sets. Matching the ROM file names in MAME to the physical ROMs would be a good (and simple) start, though, as MAME typically names the ROMs based on how they are labelled on the PCB.

Thank you for the info and suggestion to compare the physical chip markings to the MAME ROM names. I was able to match most of the 12 chips, but some were inconclusive (physical markings are clear, but do not align at all with anything I see on MAWS for any of the Phoenix (or clone) rom sets). Looks like I've got a mystery machine
