Problems with post MAME 101 versions

Hello.
While trying to watch a Lock 'N Chase .inp on MAME 104, and while trying to play & record a Jr. Pac-Man game on MAME 106, all I get is a black screen with a gray border, and up in the upper left hand corner of the screen is a small gray bordered box with a blue center.
I've never seen this before, and it doesn't happen to me on any other version of MAME.
The latest version I have played on is MAME 101. Also, I am running Windows XP with 256mb RAM & 1.6gh processor.
Does anybody know why this is happening to me, and how I can fix it?
Thank you
Robert*

Hit <Enter>, or include "-skip_gameinfo" in the command line if you are using the CLI. Don't know if that option is available in the GUI.

Okay, that seems to work. I thought I had tried that before, but I guess not. Interesting...does it do that on all games now?
Anyways, THANKS AS USUAL!!

In the GUI, go to Options > Default Game Options > "Miscellaneous" tab
and check "Skip game info"
Yes, it happens on all games now. MAMEdev claims that Windows doesn't know how to run their application correctly.

It's a bug between MAME Plus and Visual C++ 2005. It doesn't happen in MAME, regardless of compiler.

So it won't happen with WolfMAME .107.
(I know Barry knows this. That was for Robert and others.)

I notice that win98 users have problems with wolf106 version.

Remember that you need unicows.dll to provide Unicode support under Win9x/Me. Other than that, it should work, but there are no guarantees.

Hehe...at any given time they might do something that renders it completely inoperable under Windows 98. It is an unsupported platform.

wolf106 crashes OS (win98SE) during loading game (commandline version) and during playing too about 3-4 times for a day.

Dump Windows 98. It sucks. If you're too cheap to buy Windows 2000 or XP, install Linux.
