Hi,

Inp here (from mahlemiut):

http://www4.emu-zone.org/corner/view.asp?id=3379
Kawaks 1.45 (1.46 works too)
Set 68000 frequency (Alt+F) to 11MHz before starting replay

This guy made special items from each (almost) chest, food ... How?
I start discussion here:
http://bbs.emu-zone.org/showthread.php? ... ost3698514
maybe someone from MARP can help. All is hard because chinese guys are weak in English language.

And I received email from author of some articles:

Yeah, great!
I don't watch it until end but he show good tricks. First he roll life counter +2 in place where should be statue +2 lives (QRS found it). But he made +2 lives without statue.
Next on stage 3-5 he hit 'long barricade' then he get level UP and life counter roll +18 lives!
I analyse it later.

Do you know who is the author this recording?

As far as I can understand it, there is some counter in game RAM which controls what you get when you hit items. Various actions by yourself or the enemies would seem to affect it, to introduce some level on randomness, as most arcade systems have no way of producing truly random numbers.

Bubble Bobble uses numerous counters for this sort of purpose, and there's an awesome document about that at MARP.

Ok, I think I found the memory location to watch...

Use MAME's cheat system and set a watchpoint at location FF89D6.
I'd find it difficult to manage without some way of viewing it constantly though (like the watchpoint).

Ok... if the counter (0xFF89D6) is forced to 0x13, then you can get the red and green "bombs" in the second part of stage 1, but only if the last two red soldiers (and only them) are on screen. I get the feeling there's a bit more to this somehow. :/
