Most Popular Answer Contest

Below are five questions regarding arcade games. My challenge to the forum members is to PM me with your responses to all five, the object being to try to come up with the most popular answer for each one. For each member who gives the answer that you give (including yourself) you get a point. If you give a valid answer for each one, the lowest score you can get is 5 (if you are unique on all 5).

Remember, the object is to give the answer you think will be most common, not necessarily the one you think is best yourself.

For whoever scores the highest I have a Golden era Game of the Week t-shirt:

ImageImage

I will take responses until 11:59 PM GMT Sunday Night. For U.S. members thats 7:59 PM Eastern Daylight Time, 6:59 PM Central.

I will post the scores of all who have responded at that time. On this one I get to play along. Ties will be broken by earliest submission.

I have posted this on two forums. Just reply on one or the other. Collaboration between players is not allowed. (Honor system.)

If you already have a t-shirt on the way, you are not eligible for another, but are encouraged to play for fun. (They are all packaged up and ready to mail, BTW, I just need to get to the Post Office.)

The Questions: (Okay, they're not really questions, but whatever.)

1) Name a movie other than "TRON" which features video games in it's plot.

2) Name an arcade game from the 80's that has a dog in it.

3) Name a manufacturer of arcade games in the 80's other than Atari.

4) Name one of the Pac-Man ghosts in the Midway version of the game by character name or nickname (not color). There are 8 possible answers here.

5) Name a person who set a world record on an arcade game in the 80's other than Billy Mitchell.

Please do not respond in this thread.

There were 5 entries from this forum with 5 valid responses. I considered answers that were technically incorrect to be valid as long as they weren't specifically prohibited. For example, I would not have allowed "Billy Mitchell" as a response to #5, but will allow "Don Hayes", even though I don't think he set any records during the 80's.

Without further ado, here are the rankings, with tied scores listed in order the submissions were received by me:

Code: Select all

Weehawk.....................11
AL..........................10
The TJT.....................10
LN2.........................10
MJS.........................6
And here are the responses for each question with the number of people that gave them:

1) Name a movie other than "TRON" which features video games in it's plot.

Code: Select all

The Last Starfighter.........3
WarGames.....................2
2) Name an arcade game from the 80's that has a dog in it.

Code: Select all

Paperboy.....................1
Shadow Dancer................1
3) Name a manufacturer of arcade games in the 80's other than Atari.

Code: Select all

Williams' Electronics........3

Nintendo.....................1
4) Name one of the Pac-Man ghosts in the Midway version of the game by character name or nickname (not color). There are 8 possible answers here.

Code: Select all

Blinky.......................2

Speedy.......................1
Pinky........................1
5) Name a person who set a world record on an arcade game in the 80's other than Billy Mitchell.

Todd Rogers..................1
Robert Mruczek...............1
Walter Day...................1
Don Hayes....................1
Steve Krogman................1
David Palmer.................1
It looks like I scored the highest of those that responded on this forum. Since AL was the earliest of those tied for second, the prize is his.

My answers were:
1) The Last Starfighter
2) Mousetrap
3) Williams' Electronics
4) Speedy
5) Todd Rogers

Well, I can't access it before to post. I know I am late, however my answers would be horrible. Just for fun:

1 - Well... this question is a bit confused to me... My answer would be: Mortal Kombat. If plot/script is the key, MK also would not be a good answer :(
I think was not this question, however I remembered the movie "Terminator 2", where the guy play in an arcade, including After Burner game. Hmmm.. let's continue...

2 - Acrobatic Dog Fight.

3 - Konami.

4 - "Blinky".

5 - Don Hayes.

It was either Paperboy or Green Beret. I knew about Duck Hunt and Shadow Warriors but thought people would go for the others.

Guess I was pretty much wrong there.

Hey I think I'm the first to 'christen' a GEGOTW t-shirt.....(beer spill....whoops).

Cheers,

AL

It's Shadow Dancer. Shadow Warriors is the international version of Ninja Gaiden.
