MNG Recording

Just tried out the new recording feature.

To record an MNG movie during MAME, press shift+F12 to start recording and the same to stop recording. The MNG file will appear in the same folder where your MAME executable is, as romname.mng.

A player for these files is available here:

To run it you will need to install the .NET Framework available here:

I made a 1 minute Centipede recording. The unzipped inp was about 1 meg. I played it back and recorded an MNG of it. The resulting MNG file was 200 meg! It also slows play down greatly, and is just as slow on playback, so I'm not sure how useful this is going to be at this point.

In a nutshell, what is the purpose/advantage/point of recording in the new MNG format?
