Greeting Marpers,

I thought that I should start a new thread to see what other Marpers have to say about the first time experiencing an arcade emulator at first time. I'm just curious about it. Just for fun.

Consider me as an old timer that I have been emulator scene for a long time. Does anybody ever remember Dasarcade?

1. Where did you hear the first arcade emulation? What the first emulator that you ever played?

2. Where did you hear about MARP web site?

3. Which is the best emulator that you played on beside MAME?

Maybe we'll add more questions until the thread go on or not.

1. I heard the first emluator throught Dave Video Classics (R.I.P.) while surfing the 'net for any die hard C-64 fans. Sergio's Pengo emulator was the first one that I played then Neil Bradley's Atari Vector, Dasarcade (aka Sparcade), and other various emulators before MAME ever started.


2. Originally, I heard from Retrogames, first time while they're less a month old. First, I thought that Action Replay was refferring to NES Pro Action Replay (Cheat for NES). I thought that was just another cheat web site for MAME. I didn't check it out the web site about a year later to prove that I was wrong about it.

3. I would prefer Dasarcade as my fave emulator beside NB's Atari Vector or Neo-Rage.

1. MAME. I found MAME when I search one of my favourite game - Gondomania. My first step was on mame.dk.

2. When I play on polish website with inps - PLScores.

3. None.

My first emulator was CPCEMU way back in 1996. I'd got it through a local shareware vendor before I'd even discovered this internet thing

First arcade emulator was MAME though, discovered when I first got a 'net connection at home. Updated once a week back then (about version 0.22 from memory) too. Sparcade was also a favourite then, was nice and fast. DVGC was a favourite site back then too.

Found MARP early on too - just had to e-mail Zwaxy them Bubble Bobble inps (those were the days)

DES, I almost forgot to add on #1 about what MAME version that you play on the first time.

Never heard of CPCEMU before in '96. Is that a pirate version of Dasarcade which those lamers/warez who were selling at local computer store while Dave Spicer had to remove Dasarcade V3.0 off 'net for a short time. Ahh! Bring good old memories back then.

CPCEMU is an Amstrad CPC emulator. I have two CPCs and about 100 games on cassette

It's also a look at how slow emulators are these days too... CPCEMU ran full speed at 33MHz, if you had an EMS memory driver installed. Now, MESS can't manage it on a ~1.4GHz system (although MESS has virtually perfect sound output, it's still quite ridiculous)

1. I first got onto Mame about version 0.11 I think it was. I also used RAGE for a while until Mame emulated one of my favourite games, Exed Exes.

2. MARP - hm..... I'm not sure how I first found it, but in the early days I helped Zwaxy keep the scores confirmed until he got sick of my confirmation e-mails and made me the first one outside of himself who could directly confirm the scores.

3. Who cares about any emu other than Mame?! Ok, I guess I have to admit I do run C=64 and Amiga emus occasionally to play games I used to enjoy playing back in the good old days.... but I seldom have enough time for Mame these days let alone other emus...

My first MAME version was mame36final. Excellent version.

I used Sparcade as well!!!
It was a great emu... way ahead of others, specially for its speed.

I also remember using Sage, Rage, Callus, System16 and the Pac-Land emu from JROK and a lot of single-game emus I forgot their names... except for RISHGAR of course, which was the first arcade game emulator I have seen.

Great memories... now MAME makes it so easy!

I remember Rtishgar. If I remember right, it had an option that let you see where the hidden bonuses were.

1) I heard a friend of mine had a game of Hyper Sports on his PC. I didn't believe him until I seen it. Not too sure what version, but there were 'only' 400 games emulated.

2) On a search engine looking for info about Hyper Sports high scores. So I guess Phil Lamat was the first MARP name that I came across.......

3) Besides MAME? Only RAINE, and some Atari 800 emulator I got off me mate.


I wonder if there is a decent Rugby game emulator whereby you can relive that 'arcade' feeling by playing two New Zealand All-Black players at the one time and have a compulsion to end the career of a certain top-class opposition player, and, in special bug-mode, get away scot-free?
I suppose if there was such an emulator it would be banned and deemed a disgrace?
Then again, probably be deemed 'legal' in certain parts of the world......

When I said Rage...... I really meant Sage... I really liked the gucci UI on Sparcade as well.
