Arcade Reproduction

Hi!
Just saw a weird magazine called Brookstone. They're selling arcade reproduction of classic '80 video games likes of Ms Pac/Galaga, Defender I & II, Joust/Robotron, Centipede/Missile Command, and Space Invader/Qix.
The prices are very steep around $2,995.00 (usd) and I was wondering is that same prices those arcade operators bought those games back in early '80's.
The website is still there and you could look at there under games. Why do they want to bring the classics back to the arcades?

They're not for arcades, they're marketing them for private use.

"Golden Tee arcade game" $5995,00
= Mame cabinet with only trackball, triple price. Ouch!
I didn't see any mention about circuitry or licenses there. Total ripoff.

John,
I thought they're selling those video games for public and private use.
TJT...
Sorry! I forgot about G. Tee. I could not imagine anybody ever buy that machine and try to make an investment out of that. It's will take about 12,000 quarters to make your investment back! Also, don't forget about paying electrity, broken monitors, joysticks, buttons, trackball and etc...
No wonder those arcade operators take a lot of risks to buy those games back then and now! No wonder why they're losing a lot of money on these days.
Blame on the consoles not emulation that killed off the arcade industry.
Tar...
I just bought SF2CE for $300.00 back in '97. Still have it, but it turned to Mame Cab for now.
It's better to buy used video game and rebuilt it on your own mame cab or whatever than buying $3,000.00 brand new video game or Ultracade.

not only does it appear you don't get the game license(s), it's not a full cabinet, have you seen the scale? it's a midget cabinet, ugh. it'll never be like it used to be i guess...

funny...that's not what I remember. I remember prices for mspac, centipede and many other similar popular games being around $1200-1500 as new in the eastern USA.
I remember seeing many original arcade games in the mid-to-late 80s like mspac, centipede etc. selling for around $700-1200 depending on their condition...which back then was generally still quite good.
Notice the above listings though are the anniversary-combo type arcade games. TG would track all of these separately from the arcade originals.
The $3000 price on these is ridiculous IMHO.

brand new machines were expessive and well built in the late 70's
and early 80's

jtc mentions the joystick in gegotw (venture) . big hulk of a stick man.
in the USA there is so much wealth , people give or throw items away.

Whoa...whoa....whoa!
Who the hell put a six cylinder engine in an RX-7?
I know RX-7 purists who would want to find them and hurt them.

Uh...no.
The "R" stands for Rotary, as in rotary engine (Wankel). There are no cylinders (pistons).
The RX-7 had two rotors like this:

I drive a 1988 Volkswagen Golf GTI (or Rabbit in the states). She's my pride and joy. Horrible alloys on it at the moment though, I'm in the process of changing those!

Ummm...quad cassettes never existed. Vinyl, yes. 8-tracks, yes. Cassettes, no.
