Rapid fire in Gryzor

When I used to play Gryzor in the local arcades as a kid, you used to get a red powerup with a white R on it that sped up your fire. So if you got the machine gun with autofire + that R power up, it was the best weapon ever in the whole Contra series.

I haven't been able to get that powerup in MAME, so does anyone know how to get it? I'm guessing that you have change some dipswitch or something, perhaps put it in 'hard' instead of the default setting?

If you have the know-how, let me know.

On 'jumping stage' (stage after first labyrinth boss - shooting eye) you must do first jump (to level where are 2 soldiers) without weapon. R and B appear.
Best way is go to 'jumping stage' with no weapon.

PS. Best weapon is laser

So I have to either go through the first horizontal stage and then the fortress tunnel without picking up any weapons, or die at the end of the fortress stage on the "eye" boss?

I'll check out your recording. Btw, what does the B powerup do?

Yes.
