first, give us at least a few HOURS to check the score and read the post...

second, TG settings as well as default mame settings are allowed, this claims to be TG settings but it gives extra man at 8k which TG settings say NO extra man to be set, so this might be zeroed if someone else (wehawk) can verify this.

third, PLEASE attach the marp search link (copied by right clicking on the game name when finding it in marp which looks like this:

Twin Galaxies' own Robert Mruczek has set the first record on Super Missile Attack. His score on this difficult game was an impressive 102,750 points. As per Robert's suggestion, settings are as follows:

Difficulty: Easy
Cities to Start: 6
Extra city every 8,000 points

Gerhard S: For TG settings, it would be best asked on the TG forums: http://www.twingalaxies.com/forums/ <- You may need to be a member of TG first - I can't remember...

Hello Gerhard S:

Being that this is my first post on the MARP site, let me introduce myself.

I am the chief referee for the Twin Galaxies Intergalactic Scoreboard. I also work with our worldwide MAME editor, Mark Longridge, in determining scores, and mainting settings for all titles with submissions to Twin Galaxies under the MAME platform.

As you know, Twin Galaxies works quite hard at determining the settings for each title. We call them "TGTS" or "Twin Galaxies Tournament Settings". Sometimes they are harder than default, sometimes they remain default, and sometimes they may be easier than default.

This is not done arbitrarily but after much consideration, including presenting evidence and suggestions to Mark Longridge, and running settings by our own "Rules Commitee" which has nearly a dozen members, all of which contribute their thoughts and ideas for titles with 1st-time TG submissions and based on previous historical data, our own experiences and so forth, and based on the available settings that come inherrent with each title.

I tried your settings yesterday afternoon and still managed to get approx 95K...should have cracked 100K and then some but botched a smart bomb at the end of wave 9-2.

In this title, there are not just different settings for the city awards, but also different difficulty levels. When it comes to titles that are by far not marathonable, such as "Mr Do's Wild Ride" and this one, the easier difficulty setting is chosen after much consideration. Usually the setting is normal and in most cases hard or beyond.

As for the extra cities, I am one of the few players who actually played this title when the hack was first introduced to the arcades way back when, as was my worldwide pinball editor, Mike Mahaffey. Our recollections from release on both our areas was an extra city at 8K. That was the proprietor's release parameters. We knew of no other. Based on that information, the speed of the game, the likelihood that someone will marathon it never mind get even 200K, we went with our previous 8K and six (6) cities to start, not 7, to maintain at least that consistency with the classic title.

As for my own submissions, I take the time to enter "TGTS" whenever possible. I have on some titles played at harder settings than the norm, either in difficulty or with less lives or harder bonuses.

TGTS per title is established for multiple reasons, inclusive, for example, of titles where it is actually more beneficial to play at harder settings. Any expert on "Shaolon's Road" may agree with me...it is far easier to play at maximum difficulty than at a lower difficulty due to ease in predicting opponent movement patterns.

Gerhard S, there are no settings posted on the MARP site that I am aware of on a per title basis. The new TG website, only just recently completed, is now in the process of uploading verified MAME submission scores and settings, so we are admittedly behind, but once done, all the information will be present and readily available for sake of consistency. Right now it is fragmented. My apologies for that, but the few people we have working on this and the volume of scores pending entry and record information to upload is enormous.

Back to the SMA score, I can already beat the now-2nd place MARP score on 7/10K as it stands...doesn't really make a difference to me one way or the other which setting you want to play at as the mechanics of the game allows for ease of achieving scores up to 75-85K and then gets difficult every 10K thereafter. Any decent MC player can have all 6 cities by end of wave 6 anyway with several in storage, or at least 4. Wave 7 is not that bad...I've saved 5 and 6 many a time. Stage 8...I've saved 4 & 5 before, usually just 3. Stage 9 and thereafter is legitimately hard.

So you know...I have reached on 6/8K settings stage 9-1 while only losing four (4) cities. At those settings, I would have had approx 7 cities in storage as I had approx 92K getting to 9-1. That is (6+11-4=13 cities)

At 7/10K settings, I'd have had the same score, but I'd have (7+9-4=12 cities). So you see, at 92K...still a MARP WR with 12 or 13 cities in storage at 9-1...it really doesn't make that much of a difference...unless you are discussing scores above stage 10-1 when things get fast.

Robert
