Does anyone know if there are any plans to make a 64 bit version of Mame?

Thanks

That's a bit pointless, unless you have a 64-bit OS. I don't think Microsoft has yet released a 64-bit version of WinXP for Athlon64 (there's one for Itaniums though). Otherwise, your only choice is Linux. GCC has had Athlon64 options for a while - so compiling one isn't really the problem. Under a 32-bit OS, there isn't much of a speed increase.

So when WinXP64 is released (which will be quite soon I hope) it won't be long before the 64bit version of Mame sees daylight?

Thanks

(just wondering if there will be an increase of speed, if any)

I understand that a 64-bit MAME compile is a lot faster on an Athlon64 when run under a 64-bit OS.

I do remember seeing benchmarks done on a 64-bit Linux build, which showed large speed boosts. Can't remember the URL now though. ](*,)

http://www.classicgaming.com/mame32qa/bench.htm shows Athlon64 benchmarks on 32-bit WinXP.

I think making a 64 Bit version of MAME for Linux would do just fine... considering it's one of the few OS's to take advantage of the full 64 bit processing power of the processor. So no, it's not pointless.....

MacOS X(Panther, 10.3.x) is 64-bit. :P
