Golden Era Game of the Week

See introduction here

The Game: King and Balloon

romname: kingball

Reward: $25 (usd)

Deadline for submission to MARP: April 9, 2004 2359 hours GMT

Further Bounty: none

Comments: A silly little reward for a silly little game.

I wanted to choose a simple shooter for this round, and this one had some interesting elements. Like "Rip Off" and "Cerberus", the game being over is not dependent on how many lives the player loses, rather it ends when the protected commodity (in this case the king) runs out.

I'm very disappointed that I didn't manage to do better on this one. My high score came in the middle of the week. I played quite a bit after that, but just never quite had another breakthrough game. I thought for sure I would.

Not a lot of information out there about this one, but you can see the flyer here:

Use WolfMAME .80, or .81 when it's available.

tar,

Another impressive early showing.

I notice you confirmed diabolik's 79,860

I know I got to round 8 at least, and I thought I might have gotten to round 9 when I played, and the highest I got was 35k. How did he score so much higher on round 9?

Never shoot the higher scoring balloons in the formation! You get more points if you shoot them when they start to land (and even more points if you shoot them when they have stolen the king). And of course get as many of those "triples" as possible.

Check the scoring in the attract mode.

BBH: Please read the rules:
4) If you already have a recording submitted to MARP for the game, you are eligible for the contest only if you better your previous recording. This will help negate advantage held by those players, and encourage them to "raise the bar", which is sort of the whole point here.

I didn't catch that part. Honest mistake.

Hey guys.
I already had a version of 36 in a folder.
Wanted to see if D. had the same strategy.
There is an element of chance involved here.
I played a few times yesterday and boy did I
ever get mad. I punched the keyboard causing
my hand to bleed and popping the control key
off the keyboard.
That is called loss of control.
This was on my auxillary computer of course.
