Leaderboard Poll - Step 1

This will be the first step in the process of deciding if and how to modify the way the leaderboard awards points to players for their submission.

Currently, the first place score for each game gets 100 points. Each score below that gets the percentage of the top score achieved minus 15% for each place below first. For those comfortable with formulae it looks like this:

points = 100*(your_score/top_score) * .85^(place_number-1)

The first option in the poll is to continue with a system that is based on the percentage that a score is of the top score.

Before that system was instituted, 10 leaderboard points were given for a first place submission, 3 points for second place (regardless of how near or far the second place score was from the first place score), and 1 point for third place.

The second option in this poll is to go back to a system in which points are awarded based on place only, without regard to how close they may be to the high score for the game.

The poll will last seven days and we will proceed with the majority option.

What became third option :
"percentage AND place", which actual formula is considering, and for that is the best IMO

If I understand what you are saying, it is included in the first option.

Well, this is not clear ; I just see word "percentage" but not "place" in the poll option

it's clear if you read the first post where he gives the formula for the "percentage" method.

The post then describes the place method of 10-3-1.

it would have perhaps been a tad clearer if he labeled them as a list in the post and then in the poll called the options "option A as described below" and " option B as described below".

Hopefully voters will be aware of what the poll is asking and the issue is about instead of only reading the poll and otherwise blindly casting a vote.

I assume place points are not automatic 10-3-1, and percentage is not automaticly as big as 0,85*n etc? Meaning that later will become voting for a cutoff point...AND a vote for how big percentage is, or place points are???

Also does percentage include option like; 1st 100%, 2nd 50% of top, 3rd 15% of top etc??? (....meaning that -15% is not fixed, and can change like -50%,-85% as at place rankings )

Just to make sure,

Very well.

We have decided, by clear majority, to retain a scoring system based in part on a submission's percentage relative to the high score.

The next step should prove more interesting.
