Question...

Does anyone else here use PSX to USB convertors? I am asking because I myself have been looking for a good one and haven't found it yet; my latest purchase was the Radio Shack version, which occasionally fails to register button presses and *especially* sucks for fighting games (special moves are extremely inconsistent).

To be a little more specific, I use a Japanese joystick and am looking for something which emulates everything exactly as the PSX/2 does. While I doubt anyone else here uses this specific type of stick, is there anyone who uses a PSX stick to play MAME and can help me?

Thanks,
Josh.

I use Rockfire´s "Universial serial bus" psx bridge! It works great! Quite cheap too. About 20$.

Oh crap, I meant to post this as a reply in the MAME game controllers thread, and somehow I made a new topic and apparently can't delete it. Gomen nasai. =(

Anyway, thanks for the suggestion QRS!

haha, I think I remember your name from the Neo-Geo forums

unfortunately I bought a converter from Radio Shack too because everyone was raving about it... and I have the same problem with you, buttons not registering every time :( :(

BBH: Ah, that's where I remember you from then. At the time I didn't realize how collector-oriented that site is, and I don't go there much anymore. Wish there was a good English forum to discuss how to actually PLAY SNK games, but alas that seems to be a fantasy at this point. =/

Anyway...to contribute something positive here, there's a great PSX convertor option for Win2000/XP users. It's this tiny adapter that's only something like 3 bucks, and you can get it from http://www.buynshop.com . I've had one before, and it's got perfect emulation of any controller.

Several caveats, however. First is that, well, it's tiny. If you don't like having to stay real close to the computer, you'll need an extension cord. Additionally, you'll need to download drivers from http://www.psxpad.com in order for it to work; these are only compatible with Win2k/XP IIRC (definitely not 98, I know). Finally, this adapter uses the printer port, so you'll likely do a lot of plugging and unplugging unless you have an extra one.

As to why I am not using it now, it's simple: I lost mine. Being an impatient bastard and not wanting to wait for another one to ship, I went the Radio Shack route. Big mistake. =(

So I think I just answered my own question now, as I should definitely get another one of these. Still, USB convertor info would be helpful for non-Win2000/XP users, so this thread should continue.

I use a psx usb converter with a psx Namco arcade joystick. It's great and VERY authentic, you can buy them secondhand from ebay sometimes.
