year 2001 mame games

Post by Kold666 »

I have an inp of a game which isn't in mame database since some versions. Do I have to submit it when it will be supported again?
I used wolfmame0.71

Interesting question.

You mean game is not at Marp database no more?

Pat, what is the policy when some game is removed from mame...removed at marp too?

I mean, why not submit at Pong, mame ver 0xx. We're not responsible for mame policies or what...after all this site surely will not have any problems with copyright.

I'm sure he's referring to the 2001/02 games that were removed from MAME a couple of versions back.

My opinion is that they should stay in the database - they should be re-added early next year (except for snowbro3, released in 2002).

Yes, I was refering to 2001 games that were removed from mame and marp too. Marp script tells me the game is not on mame and so I can't upload the inp.

I think the games can be readded to marp, afterall they were on mame until version 074 and there are other inps of those games.

Marp doen't contain roms, only records so there aren't any legal problems.

The only thing is if marp wants to follow mame politic.

These games are all still there and you can submit for them just fine. They just have a * in front of their names. For example *vasara2.

Not really related, but:

Reading game name "Vasara" at uploads page allways makes me smile?...Did you know "vasara" means hammer in Finnish. Don't think that's finnish game though, but good name for a game with lots of hammering :P . Oh yes, while at it: "taito" means skill, and a man's name too...

Don't worry, they'll prolly be back in Mame .79 [unless Haze feels Santa like and releases Mame .78 @ xmas with those readded, due to it being a once a month thing again.]

why on vasara2 inps don't get points?
on vasara2a and other 2001 games removed from mame the points are given. Is it a bug in marp?

No, it's not a bug. Archived games don't give leaderboard points.

what does it mean archived? I mean Rotary Fighter is in mame and so other games with * before the name.
Also Zupapa, vasara2a, kof2001 have leaderboard points and they have been removed.

When a game is archived, there's usually several reasons for that.

A) The game was found to actually not be a game [Street Fighter Alpha Publicity CPS Changer] despite running on arcade hardware

B) Is one of those 2001 games temporarily removed from Mame but will return Jan. 1st, 2004]

C) Is beyond unplayable or is completely broken [Road Riot Revenge has improper controls, but when they're fixed, the game will be unarchived, games like that one Dart game which name does escape me, where no matter what you did, you had unlimited turns to get 301... etc.]

I hope this helps a bit.

Also:
D) The game is too easy to max out the points (bowling games, Rotary Fighter, Sonic Blast Man)

E) The game is for two players only (Atari Soccer, Ace)
Also Zupapa, vasara2a, kof2001 have leaderboard points and they have been removed.
No idea why those games still give LB-points...

I am guessing Pat just didn't archive these because they weren't on his list to archive, but i thought the games that disappeared from the recent mame (like these have) would get automatically archived, maybe not?

If a game gets removed from MAME (very rare!) then it is also removed from MARP. That means the game and all of its recordings are permanently deleted. Pong is a good example.

Note that you will not be able to submit any recordings once that happens. If a game is archived (always for other reasons besides removal from MAME) you can still submit by placing a * in front of the short name, but you probably already knew that!

There are games that may "appear" to have been deleted, but what has really occured is that both the short and long names changed.
