--EDIT--

Let's turn the edit back on...and if those members abuse the forum feature again then deactivate their account for a month or so.
I'm a little confused how editing existing posts can get to a point of abusing the forums though...unless you are referring to that thread that ended up getting screwed up from tons of animated gif spam in the thread?!?
That has little to nothing to do with the "edit" feature IMHO.
All it does is make these guys that want to abuse the forums just post again anyway.
These forums do have an anti-spam feature where you can only make 1 post every minute or 2 minutes or whatever the admin sets it up as.

Even though I'm not bound by any poll in regards to whether to allow post editing/deleting on these forums (they are semi-seperate from MARP itself), I'm going to allow it again for now. Mostly because I don't have the time to properly set up a mod or custom usergroup to remove editing abilities from certain people.tar wrote:edit is back

If it continues to be a problem, the editing ability WILL be removed again. I hate to have to resort to such things, but it's better than the alternative of banning users from posting at all. This forum has been relatively civil, compared to other emulation forums. And I'd like to keep it that way.
I can be pretty tolerant, but you don't want to test my limits.
I totally disagree here.seymour wrote:If it continues to be a problem, the editing ability WILL be removed again. I hate to have to resort to such things, but it's better than the alternative of banning users from posting at all
If someone even after being warned continues to abuse the forums or members etc., they should have their account deactivated.
Perhaps(these are just suggestions..nothing more) the first offense can just be an e-mail message or private forum message warning them.
The second offense could be a 15 or 30 day deactivation of their account.
The 3rd offense could be a longer term deactivation or permanent deactivation of their account.
Most forums I participate in have something along these lines.
Why would you give in and allow a couple to spoil the forums for the rest of us? Whether you can edit or not, an abusive member will continue to be abusive. Without the edit feature it could actually be worse where instead of editing their previous spam or abusive post they post a new one...so now instead of just 1 bad post there are 2.
A member who sees they can be abusive to others or the forums and the consequence is that ALL are punished by something vaguely related like deactivating the edit feature for all users will continue to be abusive. That isn't a deterrent at all. It's not a solution to the actual problem.
