Do you ever have to restart windows over stupid stuff?
This one has an mind of it's own sometimes> I swear!
Not even sure how the technology works anyway.

Depends on the version of Windows. I guess you have 9x/ME.

Windows '98 here.
Never had a reason to update to 2000.

Mac OS X owns them all.

The last crash I had for OS X was about hmmm..... 9-10 months ago...and that was from beta software that had some bad bugs in it.
Other than that 1 piece of beta software I have only had 2 crashes in the nearly 2 years I have been using OS X.

Barry, I just noticed your new signature. So Tim is responsible for this?
This sucks. I don't really care if downloads were off from there. I found it to be the best organized and clear reference site for all roms and game info etc.
That info was more valuable to me than actual "files".

My home PC is still a W98 ... even if it does not crash very often (I believe most of crashes are caused by HW incompatibilities, and now my cheap ECS mobo works much better then the old Asus), I must restart it once every 3-4 days (its way of managing RAM really sucks !!!)
My office W2K it's times better.....

For various reasons I've used all MS Windows versions past 3.1.
So far, the most stable I've had that I can run all the applications I want to on is Win ME.
DOS + Win 3.1 / 3.11 went out with the ark.
95 needs too many updates & sits ontop of too much 16-bit code. 98 crashes too often, I have yet to see a 98 install shut down correctly *and* it sits ontop of too much 16-bit code. Win ME is almost stable. Have to reboot every few days or if I run too many apps (running out of resources - read: that couple of MB of reserved paint memory!).
NT 4.0 is incredibly stable once patched, but doesn't run some of the utils I want it to. Win 2000 & XP suffer from too much NTism. XP also has the problem of getting certified drivers installed & is distinctly troublesome for my CD Writers.
Now, as for Linux... steady as a rock & excellent applications. Doesn't play games well, XMAME is usually far behind, no WolfMAME (yet).
So, I run Win ME on one machine, Linux on the other - hasn't been rebooted for several weeks. I use AT&T Research Lab's VNC to view everything from the Windows box.
