Please note two things:
1) the above URL is likely to change soon,
2) I forget to add the
readme (like anyone reads it)

Based on MAME 0.74u1. I've produced this version as 0.74 encoded the wrong version into the header. This version fixes that, and display the version the inp was recorded under to the console. If nothing else, this should hopefully stop me making that dumb mistake again. I highly recommend that you all use this version instead of 0.74.
Have fun playing Beatmania on it, btw.

Sorry if this question is moronic, and too n00bish.
Anyways, is this version as "acceptable" to MARP as the Alphamame version? It is slightly hazy to me about all this stuff, but I want to make sure that if I make a recording with this that it will not get bumped out by an Alphamame recording.
-Regards

Unfortunately, alphamame and alphamame blocking are no more. See:
viewtopic.php?t=10539
I would like to see continued "encouragement" for the usage of alphamame for games extant by version .70 and wolfmame for more recent additions, but so far, no one else seems interested.
Record in whatever version of MAME you like. There are currently no restrictions.

Thanks WeeHawk.
This all seems quite confusing. I have played some Shmups for score over the past couple of years, so I figured I would finally dive in here.
I hope this all becomes less confusing with time.
BTW: Does wolfmame work with winxp?

yep wolfmame should work with XP.
here's some encouragement:
Use alphamame or wolfmame always, so your recordings will be questioned less. Because we don't block alphamame anymore there have been a few seedy recordings (some detectable as seedy by the inp analyzer) submited with regular mame and we've dqued a few but haven't talked to all the seedies yet. We RARely question (and better yet rarely need to question) recordings made with alphamame and tgmame. So if you want to show marp pride, use alphamame or wolfmame :)

Don't think the "seedies" really give a rat's rear.

This is my first time using WolfMAME, so I think I need help...
I can't get TSS running on it. No Neo-Geo games are listed on it; and when I tried the command prompt approach, it told me that a file named "000-lo.lo" is missing (that's never happened to me before with other MAME's).
Am I doing something wrong?

What version of MAME were you using previously? There has been an update to the neogeo bios file for recent versions of MAME.
Perhaps your bios and/or game rom files are outdated.
If you haven't used the "regular" mame74, then odds are you would be having the same issues with that also.

The latest version of MAME I've ever used was v0.63.
So I guess I'm gonna have to find a newer Neo-Geo BIOS file, right?

yep, it was updated since 0.63.
I forget which version it was updated but was something like 0.68 or 0.70.
