I just looked this up and apparently it has no scores for it even thought it has been around for many versions. I guess most find it unplayable. it is very difficult.
Given there are no scores for the game I can't even view if there are any special rules for this golf game as there is for most other golf games.
Can someone please report the special rules here for usclssic?
Can you continue all you want to complete 18 holes then the score is similar to others being 200-#strokes?
The way this game plays the score will likely be under 100. hehe
It's difficult getting in the hole before reaching the "give up" on most holes...as I haven't been able to hit a ball reliably more than about 150 yards.
Just wondering....cuz I might go ahead and set a score for this just to get it started...hehe

I believe that the regular golf rules(continue until you finish the course) are applied to this game as well.
I personally don't like to play Golf games in MAME that originally used a trackball, mainly because the trackball emulation itself in MAME sucks hard(too strong ,too weak, send the ball to the left and it goes to the right, send the ball to the right it goes to the right...

).
U.S. Classic seems addictive as well, pitiful that I don't like to finish a hole with a triple bogey due to the above probs...

Yep..but for most other games I have been able to get the tracking sensitivity and my own training so I don't go over that "max" speed for input that results in the opposite direction being processed.
I wish the MAME core would fix that. It could even be something in the game cfg where you set some ceiling that you tune so you can find the ceiling where beyond that you have those input issues.
The MAME code would just change any values beyond that max/ceiling to the ceiling value before sending the input to the game CPU/routines.
However, for this game, I haven't been able to find that nice tuning of the tracking to allow for power yet not going overboard.
Even without that issue I think this game would be difficult where pars on holes would be a great score.

Well, I got the ball rolling.
Shot 111 for 18 holes. Two "give ups" but birdied the 18th.

If there were money involved I'd think I was being hustled.

Do we know for sure that the issue has been brought to the attention of the MAME developers? What was their response, if any?

After much experience I have found that, while lowering sensitivity
may help one avoid a mishap by
forcing one to move more slowly, it doesn't seem to allow one to move any faster onscreen. My rationale is that at lower sensitivity one has to move the mouse that much faster to attain a given onscreen speed, so it evens out. And of course the basic problem is that one
cannot move as fast as one should be able to in some games. Centipede being the most glaring example I have found. It's like playing volleyball in foot-deep molasses.
BTW, Magic Worm was kicking my butt so bad I quit trying for awhile. Thought for sure that would be the next of negative1's scores to bite the big one.

Cool John. I tried it more and as you likely already noticed I have got tracking tuned better now.
I ended up having to put my mouse tracking up to 250%.
With a good swing I can hit my driver about 250-280 yards.
I did get off tempo 1 hole where I couldn't hit the ball very well. I was overswinging of course.
I have found straight up doesn't result in a "up" shot.... Even with no wind a straight-up mouse movement for a swing will result in the ball going on right edge of fairway or more likely the right rough. I swing at like 11:30 for a straight shot instead of 12:00.
Also, once near the green if no bunker blocking the shot I just use my putter...even if 40 yards away and in the rough with a putter I can get it on the green.
The wind is ridiculous for wedge shots in this game so easier to just keep the ball low anyway.
I had 4 pars on the front 9....but then 3 BIRDIES!!! on the back 9...including finishing with birds on #17 and 18.
#17 I hit my tee shot within about 2-3 feet. #18 I made about a 25 yard putt from off the green.
Once you figure it out some it's actually not that bad of a golf game.
I'm going to have to try those other trackball golf games soon I guess. I have been avoiding them.

When I checked it back then it didn't work. Please tell me how many holes and all that, and I'll make special rules.
I've also made rules for the new Golf game Big Event Golf:

John and I both just followed what MARP uses for most other golf games.
You play an entire 18 hole round...regardless of how many continues you need to do.
Then your score is 200 - #strokes
In my case I shot an 88 for 18 holes so my score was 200-88 = 112.
I gave that detail in my description when I submitted.
