Alphamame blocking

I have a proposition.

Now that the alphamame blocking rule is approved, and seeing that the process is automatically, I think that the following could be an interesting thing:

"Only allow in the uploads the official versions"

If someone wants to upload something with unofficial versions his score will be 0. Is it very drastically? :o

The blocking process isn't automated.

Yes, but remember a score isn't blocked UNTIL there is an alphamame submission for that same rom set.

If you play with a regular mame and there are no alphamame scores for that rom set your score isn't blocked.

I agree that on the submission page it would be nice if at least many of the older versions were removed.

Do we really need to have listed all the 0.35, 0.36, and 0.37 beta versions?

It seems just listing the final version of each of those for that menu in submitting would help a lot. Also anything prior to 0.35 just shouldn't be listed at all.

However, I'm not sure how the code is constructed....if that list is purely from what can be displayed in the scores themselves for version used then we are stuck with it.

I would hope if that's the case that submit menu thing can be independent list so we can get rid of at least half of the current listed versions.

0.35 final, 0.36 final, and 0.37 final are enough for each platform for those older versions I think versus listing 15+ beta versions for each.

I agree with you on this, but there is no 0.37 final.

kfx, well I meant whatever was the "final" version...which was something like b2957430547365930. :P

Don't get into semantics.

"Final" in my use above meant the last version that had a 0.37 in it.

Hmm , my lowly 2nd score on Truxton has been blocked because I didn't use AlphaMame ?

I'm sorry for cheating ( not ) , but thanks anyway 8O

Pardon my crappy 56k modem , and non-reliable DL skills .

Can we have a observable link to on the MARP site to the now 'official ' MAME version ?

Thanks ,

AL

you can check your truxton recording, i put a link in there to download for you....... barry was planning on makeing a page, but really all you have to do is clikc on the UpLoads marp link and just see all the 'get MAME' links for miles, most of them point to tgmame.exe's.

I'll get around to making a page one of these days. Probably after I get around to doing an 0.69 build for Linux. :)

Barry, I think he is referring to the "Versions" link here at MARP...and how extremely outdated that page is...along with most other pages at MARP.

I can understand if Zwaxy doesn't have the time to do that but some other editor can do it for the site.

The most recent versions shown on that page are 0.37 beta versions....man...OLD!

I agree. There are tons of stuff that needs to be done on the MARP pages. Maybe another editor can Help Barry with it?? He has alphamame to work with, and he is on a 56 modem.. that sucks if you are going to upload a lot of mame versions etc to marp.

If someone can mail me a "Website Maintenance/Designing for Complete and Utter Dummies". I'd be more then happy to give aid... heck... I am almost tempted to buy Barry a new harddrive and mail it to him so he's got some serious storage.

Windows console, DOS, and Unix/Linux versions can be directly linked from the mame.net pages, so that should save a lot of agony. As for MAME32, I guess there's always mame.dk to point people to.

bleh....

To Chad : I got my mate to do the AlphaMAME thing using the link you provided , and guess what..?....Truxton WILL NOT play correctly .

Looking through the upload bit for scores on 'truxton' , I don't see how I've 'beaten' a score using AlphaMAME , except for the bottom score which seemingly was zeroed because the game won't work ?

How fair is that ?

Also , I kinda thought that 'blocking' only came into play for 1st place scores ? I may be wrong there , but that was my assumption ?

Oh , is no pausing now compulsory for MARP uploads ? ( Tournaments aside..)

Yours etc....

If someone didn't succesffuly record with alphamame your score wouldn't be blocked. Guiness admits that mame54-69 doesn't emulat truxton correctly, so blocking shouldn't be valid. Sorry Alex, should have verified the Guiness's tgmame rec first. Guiness is usually reliable so i ass-u-med.

http://marp.retrogames.com/index.cgi?mo ... 00&tourn=0

and yeah gotta "HOLD it IN", no pauses :)
