Look, players do not need to understand and be able to do the trick/skill in Outrun to have an opinion that it is unfair play of the game and certainly a bug in the code, not a feature...and certainly not the way the game developer had intended the game to be played. A
MAJORITY of those that voted felt the same way....yet you are targeting me for all your negativity and showing disrespect. Again are you saying 60% of the voters for that are stupid and ignorant? It seems you are just calling me that. That makes your comments a personal attack on me.
I watched your inp recording. I saw exactly how you raced the game. There is no way you can expect the game developer had intended for you to be able to race through a cornfield or flower field or bushes or grassy area without losing any speed at all. It's a bug you exploit shifting the gears in an unrealistic manner the developer didn't expect.
If you don't do the gear trick and go off the road you slowdown drastically...
THAT is what the developer intended. The trick results in bypassing that check so once you are off the road the check isn't done again until after you come back on the road...then next time as you get ready to go off the road the code would check for that and slow you down but the gear trick again bypasses that check.
I don't need to be able to do that myself to have opinions about that type of play. I could easily learn how to do that if I wanted to.
I'm guessing most that voted yes are because they actually aren't as informed about exactly what they are voting on as those that voted no. It wouldn't even surprise me if you had somehow voted yes numerous times...or gotten a few friends that don't give a crap to also vote yes just to support you.

I have played the game myself enough to have an idea about what times you can get racing without the trick. I had knowledge about exactly how you were playing the game. I made an opinion that isn't fair to those who raced the game without using the gear trick.
You have submitted a top score for one of the other sets not using the trick. That's good. I figured you would be able to do that...which was a big part of why I wondered why would you use a trick to get a high score when you can get the high score without using the trick? A real gamer would have just played it without the trick and gotten the high score.

wtf do you base that on? You have no clue how old I am. Again you go assuming things that are 100% incorrect. So what I didn't know about this gear trick in Outrun before this thread. Whether I knew about it 15 years ago or just a week ago doesn't change my opinion for setting records playing the game exploiting a bug. It certainly isn't a feature.
To give you an idea of my age I was in college when Outrun was new in the arcades and very popular.

I didn't say you were stupid or ignorant for having the opinion you have. I judged the game and how I think it should be played.
YOU judged ME for my opinion...not the game. See the difference? One is called discussion. The other is just insulting others.
Also I wonder now just how many other scores you have submitted where you are using some cheap trick or hack you learned from a web site to get the high scores. A highly skilled gamer wouldn't have any reason to use such tricks to start with.
