Football Champ scoring rules

Post by sqr »

Hello.

In my opinion, the default scoring rule for Football Champ (and its clones hthero and euroch92) needs a little tweak.

In those games, you can get a "hat-trick" if the same field player scores 3 goals in a game. The more hat-tricks you get, the harder the play level becomes. Which means, if you get a lot of hat-tricks, you're playing at a higher difficulty level.

The other issue with hat-tricks is that usually, players who score a lot of goals in the same way do not get many hat-tricks (because the same field player scores everything). So, the more hat-tricks a player gets, the better he/she is because there's a wider repertoire of plays that makes more players score goals.

Since it's pretty easy to get one hat-trick per game, and there's potential for up to 7 games, I propose that extra points are awarded for each hat-trick starting with the 8th one. Since it's harder to get hat-tricks in later games than in earlier games, I propose that point-awarding hat-tricks are worth an amount of points equal to the number of the game in which they were obtained. In this way, if a player already has 7 hat-tricks, an additional hat-trick in the 6th game would be worth 6 points, and an additional two hat-tricks in the 7th game would be worth 14 points.

I'm willing to re-score every recording in MARP if these changes are ok with everyone. I'd also like to confirm any scores posted for these games (i.e. how do I become a confirmer?).

As a bit of background, I started playing on November 30th, 1990. I have my own arcade board. I also wrote the lengthy (but alas, still incomplete) description for these games at KLOV:

10+ years for a game description and it's still not complete, must be a complex game :) anyways your hat trick importance seems valid if the difficulty does really increase. You are welcomed to make a poll make people vote to change the scoring rules. But you need 66% of the total vote to pass and at least 4 votes. You can make a poll by posting and switching your post type to "poll" and add the various scoring options as poll options.

Hehe... some of the "features"/"bugs" are difficult to describe. I've been making recordings, and I have some of the worst bugs already on file. Most of them are Raine recordings though.

Some days I wish Mame or Raine had some sort of INP file VCR so I can make snippets of the whole game recordings. I read something about MNG animation files, which sound like Motion PNG files. That sounds terrific!

Thank you for this bit of information. I will try to design the scoring rule the best I can before proposing it in the poll.

Andres.
