For sure if this happens the top 2 on the Leaderboard will drop down for sure.
I see one player playing really hard recently to beat Phils score and remove him from the top spot.. He is slowly Nipping him down and will take the lead soon.
I would like too see how this would change the standings of the Leaderboard..

I think Phil Lamat is quite safe up top there.
1 Phil Lamat (phl) 885 ( 1st) / 626 ( 2nd) / 313 ( 3rd)
2 el wil (pic) 425 ( 1st) / 70 ( 2nd) / 25 ( 3rd)
I agree yes, would be interesting to see what it does to the scoreboard.

You can check something
here
Be aware that those pages are over 15 months old, but it should be enough to explain the changes.
I think I can update that in some days, it has been a long time since my last one.

How long does it takes this patience in time units? Months, years, centuries ...?

I agree 100% with this sentiment.
I see the poll itself was done in 2005 and concluded 9 to 4 in favor of archiving them, followed by almost nothing but support from many players across the 7 years since then. Is there a specific reason why this is not implemented, as per MARP's voting procedures?

Part of the problem is the sheer volume of these crap games...
Brace yourselves for MAME 0.147... there are 7000 (seven thousand!!) new games and most of them are just clones of gambling games found at bars, casinos, etc...

When I work for MAME and have to do a big change, I tend to do smaller steps in order to reach the goal. And well, I don't think that archiving all those could be done in a single session, that would bring anybody insane.
So, my suggestion is to just take one step at a time. imho it's always better to have a partial list of gamblings banned for the time being than the current situation.

Technical question: Maybe the database can't handle so many archived games and still make marp perform well. Is the process of archiving a switching single boolean flag off to on for each archived game? or is there a table of archived game ids?
Design Idea: It would be better to redesign the marp archiving mechanism into styles of games that can be turned off or on based upon a leaderboard flag. If there is an archived flag and we archive gambling games, that groups the truly archived for score games with the gambling games and I think that would be a mistake. This takes timeto change the archived flag in database from a boolean to an integer to indicate what style of game it is, and the leaderboards to include if the style is in a certain flavor, but the time spent here could help us down the road in managing inclusion and exclusion of game styles from leader boards.

Good ideas here! Right now archiving is a hack with the * in front. To maximize flexibility, I think Zwaxy would need to add two fields -- genre and archive

A good plan in theory, except that Zwaxy doesn't give a shit about MARP from I don't know how many years. And I don't see why he should all in a sudden.
Are we going to repeat the Totò and Peppino gags over and over just to not do anything at all?

Just got an email from Zwaxy who said he would help as soon as he finishes a house project. He sounded rather friendly, so he just might give a shat = (little shit). He seemed to think adding genres was not a big deal. If he's not lieing we could see working genre's in marp games by the end of the year.

Talking is for the weak. And guess I'm going to think of a good joke IF the thing won't materialize ...

Cool news ; while he's at it, it would be cool if he also can fix the "filter by date" in the search page (last year available = 2001!)

After I asked Zwaxy a few years ago, he had made the changes so that the *ed games were appearing in the "top3" link.
For some reason (new script change ? bug ?) again they don't appear.
I've kept an old version of this page for those who are interested ...
