No tricks, no tips, no cheats just real play with alphamame 0.64 :D

Hisa, I got two words for you "GROW UP!!" Don't go around insulting other MARPers. I thought it was common courtesy for the Japanese to RESPECT other people. Obviously you missed that lesson in your upbringing.

As far as your technique, I will allow it because it was intended by the game developers and is not considered a bug. If someone wants to challenge, a poll must be started to ban the technique.

I don't ever again want to hear you criticize other MARPers and put up 1st place scores you claim are "poor" without good reason. This is extremely arrogant behaviour and will not be tolerated.

Right, another 65-odd mahjong games in MAME will about do it. :)

Hark!? What's that?! Another 50 new Mahjong games released in Mame .65? WHO'DA'THUNK'IT!!

... No... seriously... I would NOT be surprised if there were 50 more in the newest version... I believe in the preservation of games.. but this is getting ridiculous!

SERIOUSLY?! WTF NEXT?!

New in Mame .69! ALL PORNO MAHJONG GAMES!! B00B13Z!!!

It could happen kids... trust me... it could happen

Kelly
Im getting this vision  of a Japanese arcade with nothing but Mahjong machines, lined up Vegas style. Did these pay out? Were they set like our Poker machines are, used in casinos etc...??? If not I can't believe there was that much demand to create so many varieties of the game. If they are used in gambling, why aren't video poker games emulated? Could even have strip poker for all you porn fiends out there.

After 100 races I doubt you would be a novice at the game anymore and doing quite well. It really just takes playing it enough to semi-learn the courses so you can anticipate and steer through turns well versus being setup for a turn wrong then having to hit the brakes or end up running off the road and spinning out.
But I do see it from your point of view, and do have agreeances with that for the most part. But this is forgiveable... it's not like the GnG trick with the timer mess up... Kelly
Well, yes, it isn't quite the level of GnG tricks where you have the extra man scoring loop in that 1 level and/or that timer thing.

However, I don't think the Outrun trick is forgivable if it allows you to obtain scores that are impossible to obtain racing the game honestly. All scores seem to indicate that is the case. If he had almost the same final score as others racing normally then I agree it's forgivable even if it makes it so you can get that similar score having less driving skills. However, when you can finish 9+ seconds faster than anyone else's submitted scores, that is a very large time gap that likely can't be made up racing the game normally. You could run a nearly perfect race racing normally and not reach anywhere near 52-60 million from someone playing it poorly as Novice claims he did.

One had posted they were an "expert" playing it in the arcades and had never gotten 50+ million. Novice got 52 million and admits he sucks at the game and hadn't played it a lot. He just learned the trick and then raced using it. Fine, perhaps the trick technique requires some skill also. I'm not saying it doesn't. Novice admitted himself he got that score not on skill. If Novice had gotten 52 million and claimed he played his butt off...then fine..perhaps all skill. He called it a "poor" score and then showed from that other site the top score using that trick was 60 million...clearly a score those racing it normally can't obtain.

You don't demolish all other scores posted then say you played poorly to get that score. If he truly played poorly then it's definitely an indication that trick allows you to finish the race faster.

If he was just off the road a little bit even exploiting that trick for a couple seconds then fine...but to exploit it time after time throughout the entire race as the actual technique of an alternate way of playing the game mainly just because you already know for a fact you can get higher scores that way just isn't right. We all will be doing that now if this is allowed to get higher scores for Outrun which really cheapens the scores for that IMHO and also spoils it for others that want to view an inp file showing a great race but instead see a cheap trick exploited.

When I record a game and I think that I sucked or played "poorly", I generally don't upload that game. CAUSE IT SUCKED. Which means I'll have no problem beating it. And why upload your worst performance?!?! I think its a case of being an overly humble elitest. Record what you think is an "ok" game then, delete that poorly played piece of crap and spare us your humble gloating.

On the other hand if what you say is true about just giving props to the guys who could decimate your score, then just give them props but don't bash your own score on their account. They're not here are they? When they show up and your score drops to 10th then you can start self mutilation. k?

Soon Phil will not play a lot any more, as he will be VERY VERY busy with his twins :)

Concerning leaderboard, I agree with BBH : it doesn't mean not much ; and yes, Barry is right, my good place is due to lot of mahjongs, but what can I say ? I love play this type of game ...

By the way, does anybody knows which type of games we've the more in Mame : mahjongs, shooters, fighters ... ?

Yes, I did repeat myself some....but only cuz it seemed from other postings some felt there was no advantage to playing Outrun using that trick etc. All evidence suggests there is a big scoring advantage to using the trick as a "poor" performance can easily outscore good performances by others racing as intended.

Excuse me but when several MARP scores for Outrun are close in the 40-43 million range then you submit a "poor" performance that is 52 million, are you saying with your "poor" performance you are that much more skilled at the game versus those submitting 40-43 million scores racing the game as intended? I keep putting "poor" in quotes cuz that is what you stated yourself Novice. You have totally admitted yourself that you are using a cheap trick to get higher than normal scores for the game.

Given MARP has set up special rules for many games based on that exact premise, it seems this should follow for Outrun also.

If you notice I have not even submitted a score for Outrun. I haven't played it enough to even complete the race. My comments aren't about "loser's blaming" etc. but just wanting the scores at MARP to truly represent the best or among the best playing the game....not some beginner using a trick to take advantage of a game flaw. Sure the Japanese high score sites might allow it cuz they are purely looking for the highest scores possible even if that involves using tricks and leeching and extra man score-leeching loops etc. but from looking at the special rules for tons of games here at MARP it isn't something MARP wants.

Plus, I have enough other games I am working on at this time...but might eventually get around to playing Outrun enough to get a 40+ million type score. I wouldn't use any cheap tricks though.

If racing the game as intended you can also reach scores of 52-60 million, then I have stated above your alternative technique is then fine cuz you aren't gaining any advantage by using it. I am personally not familiar enough with the game to know what potential score you can get racing the game as intended. However, assuming the top few MARP scores in the 40-43 million range are close, I assume those guys are semi-close to the limit so perhaps a "perfect" race would at the most be in the 45-50 million range without using the trick. Your so-called "poor" performance outscores all of those easily.

That's it in a nutshell.

for LN(loser nonsense)2

You had better improve your skill.
rather than blame other's trick.

do it by yourself or shut up.

if you tell that my 52 million is poor, then beat that "poor one" by yourself
to prove that trick does not require higher skill to beat current top.
and suggest ban trick by yourself.
If you do it by yourself, I will agree with your opinion.
(do not steal/upload other top players site's replay. I have already checked all Japanese site)

Loser's comments are so ugly. blah

You seem to be overlooking the point I was quoting YOU there. Go back to your early post in this thread and read what YOU wrote! I don't need to be able to tell if that is a poor effort or not cuz YOU said your 52 million was a poor effort. Are you calling yourself a liar now? :P It is the basis of that plus the fact that 52 million demolishes all other Outrun scores I said what I did above.

It has nothing to do with anything else so please stop being an ass and read what you wrote yourself. You said you are a beginner at the game and played poorly for that 52 million score.

My judgements above have nothing to do with my playing the game or not. I even stated I have played that game very little to the point I don't even know the courses well enough to finish it yet. Stop trying to think I am attacking you personally cuz I'm not. Although it is starting to become personal cuz in your replies you are attacking me. My judgements above are purely objective....regardless of the person that did this type of thing I would feel the same way. I just think it's totally unfair to more skilled players for Outrun you have submitted a score using a trick.

Why do I think they are more skilled? It's only cuz you admit you are a "poor" player at the game.

Again, submit a score of 45+ million racing the game normally and get your 100pts playing the game as intended and I then will admire your accomplishment. My guess is you tried lots to beat it and couldn't so used the cheap trick knowing that would allow you to easily beat the top MARP score. If you could have beaten the top score playing the game normally, you would have done it. It's that simple.

I'm sure you feel satisfied taking the top score in such a cheap manner though. Congratulations!
