I turn on Golden Tee today and look at MARP scores. Scores on different curses are almost identical. Then why split game to different curses if scores are identical on each course? Merge these and you play on course which you choose.

well, most courses will be a Par 72 for 18 holes. I looked at one of the Golden Tee games and it had a course that was a Par 73. While this is a slight difference, it still didn't make much of a difference in the MARP scores. The only thing that would upset the balance of the game would be a course that consisted of all Par 3's or Par 5's, as then you'd definitely have scores skewing in one direction. But that's not happening here.

Games should only be split when there are huge differences in gameplay style (like Vs. CPU and Puzzle modes in certain puzzle games), or for tracks in games in which scores wouldn't be comparable (like driving games). If it's not a huge difference, then you play the course that gives you the most points (or the one you do best on). If you don't think it's fair that this would exclude certain courses from being played, well... I'd like to again point out that I can't really play any routes on Shock Troopers aside from the highest-scoring one. There are completely different levels there with much different scoring potential. Why doesn't that deserve to be split when golf games do?

Also I'd like to point out that Neo Turf Masters is split by course on MARP, but if you check the game's attract mode, it shows a top 5 that combines scores for all the courses and just lists the course the score was achieved on. This game has the right idea. :P

hey we can also "letter-split" games like Puzzle Bobble 2 where you choose the path in solo mode!
i'll let phil do the maths...

First, I have played Golden Tee, both the real game, and in MAME (although more of the real games). I like the game (at least when drinking), but I think there are currently too many splits with too little difference in play, and will be voting for Yes, B.

I remember when I first joined MARP last year, I read a lot of historical forum posts about changing or even getting rid of the leaderboard, and at the time I didn't really understand why. Now I do, and frankly I think MARP might be better off without a leaderboard at all. Maybe its best to ust let the scores and recordings on each game speak for themselves.

pars range from 68 to 73 in golden tee.
I did see that blost has played and uploaded; surprised to see him vote yes, though.
You played golden tee, but did you make an upload? I don't think there's a ton of difference on most(not all) courses withing a parent/clone; probably not much more than between streetfighters.
I'm resigned to impending defeat in the vote, but since we're on the topic of eliminating games/splits/whatever from leaderboard, chech out the archive mahjong/trivia games topic. There's no sense is having them anymore than poker.

I feel I should mention that leaderboard is only reason marp interested me in the first place...otherwise I'd just play at home and submit only to TG for records. LB is the only thing that got me away from pc/online games and it's likely what I'd go back to if it was removed/eliminated. I rarely look at other uploads unless I can't beat the score/come close after trying a few times. I should be practicing RYL...there's a million for the winner there vs no money here(excepting gegotw...don't usually mess with it though unless I like the game). I have always like playing classics vs newer stuff...LB gives me an excuse.
