IMHO, it should play the same across all versions of MAME, and is a bug if it doesn't. :?

yes, unfortunatley playbackability bugs don't get put up there with the same status as real emulation bugs. How many years did it take them to figure out there was a playbackabilty bug in the visco games (and other games that used seeds for playbackability)???? it would be nice if they were important to mamedev.

If only one of us were a MAMEdev, then we could start kicking some butt over this :)

Wait a minute... Oh, Haze...

Well, people *could* argue (not that I would like this) that "MAME is only for documentation/saving hardware, and being able to play the games is a nice side effect. Adding the INP function was really *unnecessary*"

the inp file functionality is strictly for development purposes, to allow developers to repeat bugs, all entertainment gained is strictly prohibited.

So if it's for 'development purposes', then it really needs to work, doesn't it?

sort of like the chicken and the egg, it only needs to work IF there is a bug, so if there is not a bug it doesn't need to work, but there is a bug so it doesn't work :)

It makes a little sense when you realize that XP's core is different from 98's (ME is closer to 98, while XP is closer to 2000 and NT4).

Still, who knows WHAT the difference is (probably system drivers being slowed down in XP).
