I've wondered about this too. The 1-ups that appear from bursting bubbles seem to be semi-random, sometimes I don't get them at all even if I don't die on that stage. I've had it happen a few times on stage 6.

Not random. Whole game is patterned. If you play using always identical (or almost identical) moves and finish stages in the same time you get the same items still. Otherwise if you die pattern is changed. I think pattern depends more from play time than from moves.

For 13 lives in stock bonus is 2mln.
I'm not sure if in game is 14th extra life
For 14 lives in stock bonus is 2.1mln. (I use cheat for 14th life

)
Extra lives are on stages:
5, 6, 12, 15,
25, 30,
34,
40
These with red color must be triggered.
EDIT
Extra lives on stage 34 and 40 (tested on one save state only, will be tested more

).
34 - no nerves

shoot to balloons, don't get dynamite until balloons give extra life. For sure it is not 100% method because when I lost life on stage 34 (I don't get extra life otherwise) balloons don't give extra life for me when I play with next life. After lost 5th live balloons give extra life. Maybe key is in score?
40 - fast and accurate shot to balloons when stage begins. In my gameplay third shoot in 115-117 second and extra life appear, shoot in later seconds - no extra life. I'm sure that it is not key.
Maybe key is right time and right score at the same moment?
Remember about next secret in game

No, I'm not on the list. I came across the forum on TG and decided to give it the old college try.

I think once you submit a score for pang then you are entered.
top 36 of all submitted scores for pang with "K6" entered this week will advance.

I believe you get three chances to place in the top 36, it's a three game (pang is the first of three) 3 week qualifying round from what i gather.

Both wrong. It looks like some people are slightly confused about the rules for the 1st stage. The 1st stage is a "points competition", like in Formula 1 or NASCAR, which spans the first weeks. Each week points are available for the first 53 places that week. Everybody gets to play all 3 weeks. At the end of 3 weeks, every player has a total point count which is the sum of their points from the 1st week, the 2nd week, and the 3rd week. The players with the top 36 point count totals advance.
A few hypothetical examples:
Destructor: Week 1 - 2nd, Week 2 - 3rd, Week 3 - 1st
Points = 60 + 55 + 70 = 185
Gastrainga: Week 1 - 36th, Week 2 - 41st, Week 3 - 29th
Points = 18 + 13 + 25 = 56
NotMan: Week 1 - 54th, Week 2 - 56th, Week 3 - 59th
Points = 0 + 0 + 0 = 0

I can't believe how much practice I need at this game! XD
By the way, can someone tell me where I submit the recordings?

Zip up the .inp and .wlf files, and upload the zip via MARP's submit page (in the top frame).

Go to the main MARP page:
http://marp.retrogames.com
If you haven't created a MARP account (it's a separate account from your forum account), click on the
New Players Click Here link and follow the instructions to create your MARP account. Your MARP account doesn't require manual activation by a moderator like your forum account did.
Once you have a MARP account, use the
Submit link on the top of the main MARP page to go to the score submission forum. Make sure to include K6 in the Description and WolfMAME 0.106 as the MAME version.

Well I've played couple games and my highest is 50k, I opted not to submit it yet...
By the way, can someone tell me where I submit the recordings?

Fair question.
http://marp.retrogames.com/index.cgi?tuaoLtUaE=42
Or go to
http://marp.retrogames.com/
...And then index, create account, log in, submit. I believe this thread has link to see submissions so far, but you can go to "index" and look recent uploads there.
Usually I look at the top frame and click "loads" to see recent uploads at MARP, though for this competition the usual top "worst position to show" has to be changed something bigger than default 20..
http://marp.retrogames.com/index.cgi?mo ... t=date_rev
There you can play with the numbers how many latest uploads you want to see.
We are a helpful bunch, while I was writing this there were already two replies!

P.S. 2. It seems that some of the links I submitted do not show top-frame for practical navigation at MARP.
