Sorry, but the space DOES make a difference. If you're going to use the long name box, you need to type the long name in EXACTLY as it appears in MAME. MAME says it's "Ms. Pac-Man", not "Ms.Pac-Man".
Is there any topic in the forum in which we can announce our scores or talk about?
Not really. You can always join the IRC channel (#marp on lazynet) if you want to talk about your recordings. Everyone can see your recordings on the latest uploads anyway.
PS. Is it true that we must delete any NVRAM file before play and record input?
Yes.

Sorry to mention this but search machine still doesnt works good.
There are 2 pacmania types: Pac-Mania and Pac-Mania (Japan)

If u put in the second field Pac-Mania (Japan) you ll get Pac-Mania (Japan) scores.
If u put Pac-Mania you ll get again Pac-Mania (Japan) scores! :?

So its forbidden talk about this in this forum? Should I only use the IRC?! :!: 8O
-Is it true that we must delete any NVRAM file before play and record input?
-Yes
What happens if I wont delete it? What is the usage of this folder?

NVRAM = non-volatile RAM. It's data stored by the game, that isn't wiped when it is turned off.

Main reason for not allowing it to be used, is for playbackability. If the data stored in NVRAM differs, then playback will fail. If it is removed, then we know everyone is recording from the same state, so to speak. The other reason, is that we know easily the game settings used, as they will always be set to the game's defaults.

Search works fine. If you're typing Pac-Mania into the long name, then it's going to turn up all the romsets that have Pac-Mania in their name. Since the Japanese romset is also called that, those scores will come up too of course.

If you only want the scores from the main Pac-Mania romset, search for pacmania in the SHORT NAME. Problem solved.

It's not forbidden, but nobody really uses the forum to announce every recording they upload, since anybody can see it on the main site. If you have a really impressive recording that you think warrants discussion, then feel free to mention it I guess? But there's no need to post about EVERYTHING you upload. IRC just works better for real-time discussion and all that.

Maybe u didnt understand me? Check this yourself:
If u put in the second field Pac-Mania (Japan) you ll get Pac-Mania (Japan) scores.
If u put in the second field Pac-Mania you ll get again Pac-Mania (Japan) scores
!
This is a problem.
And about short name box, how can I be sure for the spelling of short name? You people told me to write the EXACT name in the long box... I typed it and I got wrong results...
.......But there's no need to post about EVERYTHING you upload. IRC just works better for real-time discussion and all that.
Not everything of course. But why not discuss the big scores or how to impove them, tips etc. IRC is a chat and this is a forum. Forum is better because the written stay saved. So, if its not forbidden I prefer to talk here about the scores.(wtf, what else do u discuss in the forum boys, if not the scores??)

I want to report a fake(?) score... I just checked the only submited score in Winter Heat and I saw its fake... or maybe recorded file doesnt work properly? Can u plz check it?

Thank u.

yeah you're right. The issue you speak of should be posted in the "playbackability" section of this forum. This is where all the playback issues should go. This is probably the reason the score is still not orange on this score is that no one was able to confirm it. I also wasn't able to play this one back.

http://marp.retrogames.com/r/winterht
http://marp.retrogames.com/inp/0/6/3/ph ... olf104.zip

looks like you were able to use the search engine well enough to find that. The reason you are having the issue with pac-mania is because ^pacmanij$ was most likely still in set the first field when you searched for "Pac-mania" and thus the pac-mania (Japan) matches ^pacmanij$ short name and "Pac-mania" long name. When i put "pac-mania" in the long name (and make sure the short name is empty), i get the non japan one.

No, you're the one that doesn't understand. Whatever you type into one of the search boxes will match every game that has that in their title. If you type "pac" into the long name box, you'll get every game that has a "pac" somewhere in the title, which includes any of the Pac-Man games, DoDonpachi, Apache 3, etc.

When you search for "Pac-Mania" in the long name box, you'll get every game that has Pac-Mania in its title. Pac-Mania Japan (pacmanij) has Pac-Mania in its title, so it's going to come up as a result. If you still don't understand, I don't know what to tell you, but stop blaming the search function.
And about short name box, how can I be sure for the spelling of short name? You people told me to write the EXACT name in the long box... I typed it and I got wrong results...
If you're a using a GUI version of MAME, the shortnames should appear in the game list. You got "wrong results" from the long name of Ms. Pac-Man because the long name you entered in did not match exactly the way it's spelled/spaced in MAME.

There's plenty of things the forum has been used for that doesn't directly involve discussion of recordings. Like I said, if you want to start topics about certain games then go right ahead, but people won't like it if you're using the forum to draw attention to everything you upload.
I want to report a fake(?) score... I just checked the only submited score in Winter Heat and I saw its fake... or maybe recorded file doesnt work properly? Can u plz check it?
What Chad said, use the Playbackability forum to report scores that don't playback. Don't call them "fake" scores though, everyone makes mistakes and sometimes recordings just don't playback correctly, it doesn't necessarily mean the person was trying to upload a "fake" score.

Also, here's another tip for you - when you submit a score, please submit the ACTUAL score, don't round it off. Your pacmanij recording plays back to 320,050, not 320,000. If you don't remember what the score was at game over, play it back and double-check it before you upload.

Chad & BBH, u know I m right
U told me to write the exact name on the long box. So I did. But:

If u put in the second field Pac-Mania (Japan) you ll get Pac-Mania (Japan) scores.
If u put in the second field Pac-Mania you ll get again Pac-Mania (Japan) scores!

Am I right or am I wrong?
You got "wrong results" from the long name of Ms. Pac-Man because the long name you entered in did not match exactly the way it's spelled/spaced in MAME.
U kidding me, right? I m not talking for ms pacman anymore. I m talking for pacmanias and I wrote only their exact names.
... if you're using the forum to draw attention to everything you upload.
I just said "not everyrthing". Are u sure u pay attention on my posts?
Don't call them "fake" scores though,...
Ok, well I used the question mark(?)
when you submit a score, please submit the ACTUAL score, don't round it off.
Ok But I have to play it all back again. Is there any way to "run" the playback and go straight to the finish? Did u see all the playing yourself to check the 320.050 points?

Well, I ll ask about Winter Heat in the playbackability section, the question is WHEN you will remove this score?
Chad, your 2nd link doesnt work. What it was about?

Am I right or am I wrong?
If you delete (Japan) only you have right. Why? Because space is after Pac-Mania.

Space = _

Pac-Mania_(Japan), after delete(Japan) you have Pac-Mania_. You must delete space for main set Pac-Mania scores.
tk2007 wrote:Ok But I have to play it all back again. Is there any way to "run" the playback and go straight to the finish? Did u see all the paying yourself to check the 320.050 points?
When you playback inp you can press F10 and set frameskip to 10 or 11 (using F8 or F9 key) for faster playback.
tk2007 wrote:Chad, your 2nd link doesnt work. What it was about?
Right mouse click on it and Save as.

Am I right or am I wrong?
sigh.

ok, think of it as a wildcard!!!

when you search for files on your computer and just enter "pac"

then ALL files, that have the 3 sequential letters of a "p", then an "a", then a "c" will be listed!!!

This is similar for the long name search function here.

when you search for "pac-mania" then ALL rom sets that have a long name with the letters "pac-mania" in them will be shown in the search results.

There are TWO games that have pac-mania in their long name.

Pac-mania
Pac-mania (Japan)

-----
These search results are correct.

what part of that can't you understand??!?!?

search for "mania" and you will get the above 2 games PLUS:

lots of beatmania rom sets
Dunk Mania
Gondomania

and many more...including the 2 pac-mania games.

exactly as it should be.
