4 speakers does not automatically make it "quad".

Quadraphonic sound was introduced to the mainstream in the early 70s. It basically provided re-mixed versions of regular albums/records that could be heard through a 4-speaker system and receiver/amp that had the circuitry to translate the sound to the speakers. Very fun stuff. Lots of swirling sounds. My friends used to smoke weed while listening to Edgar Winter's "Frankenstein" on their quad system. I guess the wild sounds made the experience better...lol.

Today's surround sound systems are very much the children of the old quad system. Just a bit more enhancement with the advanced technology.

Yup. I'd laugh, too. But it wasn't I who did the weed...among other things.

As a musician in those days, I was probably the oddest of all breeds in that I did not go through the typical drugs/alcohol syndrome that seems to be the musician stereotype (and for good reason that stereotype exists!). In fact, my 4/5 piece rock bands in those days went through many personnel changes due to my intolerance to bandmates partaking in such entertainment. At one count, we figured that we had almost 50 members at one point or another that were a part of the band. Kicking them out was either related to drug use or just plain laziness on their part. I had no problems with those unrelated to the band or band members on their free time taking in that activity. When it was time to play, they had best be ready to go...no excuses.

Hmmm...it's nearly 25 years later now. I wonder if I've mellowed on that subject. Nah!

That is a very strong and firm opinion from you! I really respect that. Especially from a youngster in the music buisness at that time... a lot of pitfalls for young people on the road!

I can't say I was that good in my younger days... ....but I'm just as firm as you with anything drug related now!
