this is arguing the thread subject, stig, no matter wot, has an opinion and deserves to voice it, but it looks pretty clear that the games are pretty close and old -fast's should be moved to f's clones.

According to a Mame Developer, they will stay the same way they are now. They are not adding hacked sets for those. I dont even believe there was speed up hacks for every clone. That would be insane.

Insane or not, almost all the clones of PacMan and Ms. PacMan in MAME have the speed-up option.

If you're going to remove it from the parent ROMs, it makes no sense to leave it in the clones.

they will be

They will all be gone in the next version, according to a developer. Dont worry.

If MAMEdev does create new hacked ROMsets for all those clones, the scores still can and will be moved.

If not, archiving was inevitable.

MAME simply doesn't support this type of play anymore for those titles.

Oh well...just another reason to remove all my scores. MARP keeps changing things to discourage competition. The LB changes haven't stopped the ABC loaders. Now archiving lots of rom sets for whatever reason.

I have moved into my new apartment and just tonight got a new computer station/desk and got my mac setup and back online.

Once I get more settled here(still have 20+ boxes to unpack and sort out) and catch up on a few other tasks I will start looking at the wolfmacmame project possibilities.

At least with that I will be able to participate in other events like the Decas.

Most of my mame/arcade energies will be going toward TG as my participation level there will very soon reach a new level. More on that soon enough.

Later...

MARP has always followed the 'rules' set up by the MAME team when it comes to archiving/removing games etc. We don't really NEED to do it but it has always been so. This is nothing new really.

Regarding the ABC uploaders and the new leaderboard.. hmm I still think it is to early to say yet... why?

1:More time is needed to really evaluate the new lb.
2:ALL the remains of the old lb must be gone.
3:The worst ABC uploader ever to visit MARP is here!

Therefore I can't really say much more about it..until Gerhard cools down.. Zwaxy fixing everything.. and time goes by :P

Yes, I tried with mame85, piranha....there is still option 2x speed cheat at "input this game" options, mapped at left ctrl. But it does not work.
Romsets have not changed, so can still easy download roms and use older version.
There could be made special rules for these archived games, that those must be played with mame84 or earlier. If there is good will.

Or wait untill these -fast hacks will be added into mame. Or wait untill these are added into cheat.dat(yet wolfmame doesn't allow recording with -cheat), wait could be long.
Or include them in wolfmame.
(Or bitch at mamenet forums, not recommended...eh.)

Actually there has not been many removals of games from mame, except couple Galaga and Polepos clones. With those the romsets were removed alltogether, which might make competing the games harder, since roms can not be found easy anymore. This is not the case with now archived -fast games though.

This situation is compared to removal of those games, since arcades did actually have Jr Pacman fast hacks and those earlier removed clones.
I also feel this is particularly unfair against one single player.

Who?

...He actually lists old marp leaderboard at hes website, so there we have hes motivation. He also must be unaware of the converstaions processed at marp forums. He'll propably eat some tasty fruitcake after hes 1000nd marp upload.
Can get somewhat unmotivating for other players spend couple weeks perfecting one score, then see upload vanish from the uploads list in 1 hour. Need to bumb that lb/linux thread sometime soon again :?

TJT

p.s. My apologies Stig. Seems this thread was useful afterall.

it is unlikely they will be added, the supported sets document how the speed hack worked on the real hardware (modified roms), the old 'speedup' was just a hack and having a clone of every pacman set with a speedhack is excessive.

pacman is just one of those games which was hacked in so many ways it is impossible to support every hacked set as there are thousands.

we feel the current supported sets are fine.
