btw, dskys, try boosting analog sensitivity 10%. i find that helps compensate just enough... but then Anders is the real expert at MARP. i don't have any of these firsts any more

My spinner works 100% on games like Tempest etc. Oscare controls have great spinners and the quallity is extremly good! I do need a more sensitive one on games like Arkanoid and Cameltry though.

I will try and find a better encoder wheel for it. Mine has only about 36 knobs in it. Compare that to Tommis encoder wheel that has over 100 ( I think)

I will try to find a real Arkanoid spinner and try to make it work for MAME.
For me that is the only wat I think... to get the exact same feeling as I´m used to in the arcades.

You can make a spinner out of a mouse, yes. I doubt that the feeling will be the same though. I´ll have to agree with the l33t feeling about the 2600 paddle though I don´t have any of those left so I can´t really try it on mame...

Many professional FPS gamers use this mouse. For mouse looking precision it's far superior to regular mice.

I had a 90 run before that 91 score run for bking where I ended up even par but had a horrible triple bogey on the 5th hole.

I find the larger problem is the short putts. Longer putts are almost easier than those short ones...unless you get lucky and it's straight up/down/left or right.

On the flipside...with my settings if I move the mouse just right i get a really nice long tee shot. I had 1 game in bking my drive was on the front fringe of the green...and I made that long-ass putt for an eagle!!!

That round on #8 the bird screwed me over...taking my ball and dropping it into the trees....tried a few shots from it..all ended up OB....started a new game.

it's the only time I have driven #6. on #1 I have gotten it just shy of that greenside bunker a couple times....makes it a pretty easy birdie then...unless the putt I end up with is that odd angle putt and short.

I'm pretty sure with the razer boomslang we wouldn't have those issues.

That's great you got 5 birdies to play out 8 holes?!?!? geesh. I'm not sure if I'll even bother trying to go for that. I think I would almost need to get lucky and get a hole-in-one on that 3rd hole...with lucky wind or no wind. that hole requires some luck also cuz if you get that downwind...you can only put it in the back-middle of the green...long and tough birdie putt...whereas if no wind or blowing to right you can put it in there pretty close for an easy birdie putt.

Man, you must have had some good winds for that bking2 score. I get that 1 hole...#4 usually where it's against the wind where getting even a par is really tough....then that par 5 5th if downwind you can be near green in 2...but if no wind it's a real par 5....hard to birdie.

for bking2, i've only made the green *once* in three shots on #4 when there's a downwind...its really hard then because you have to hit your ball up through that narrow strip of land--you can't cut over the trees on your first shot. #4 is just a miserable hole in general. i almost invariably underhit my second shot.

i can almost get to #1 in two. i think its possible to hit the fringe if you play two perfect shots--usually when i get a strong second shot it will one-hop into a bunker.

#6 is annoying because you have to slide the ball over a bit on your tee shot if you don't have a wind, and either way, its a long putt.

#5 can be birdied even with a down wind. besides, the downwind won't last for three strokes (although i've been down to one on my counter before). but i usually end up having to make a miserably long putt on this hole.

trick to the short awkward putts is really just to read the green and then try and stay as close to a vertical/horizontal movement as possible--figure out a very slight deviation, then make an easy, smooth motion with the mouse along that line. a good practice point for getting this down is actually to practice hitting just left of the trees on hole #1's tee-shot. it's the kind of weird angle that is so easy to miss when it comes down to putting time. anything in the major 8 directions i can nail pretty easily.

i'm sure you'll get tha hang of it and get me back. i can do 7 holes consistently now. usually hinges on how #3 goes (lots of long putts here) and then, as mentioned, #4 is almost completely wind dependent. all of the other holes the wind doesn't matter much.

How are you making birdies then? are you holing out long shots?

This confuses me also....although by 'down wind" here do you mean the wind is blowing down as in down the screen?

A hole playing 'downwind' means you are hitting the ball in the same direction as the wind. Your usage confuses things here.

For me to even have a chance at getting on #5 green in 3 strokes to even have a birdie putt I need that hole to play downwind for the tee shot at least so you can cut across and over that bunker into the fairway.

With no wind you can make it if a perfect swing....if against wind(you downwind usage I believe) then I just hit down the fairway to the bend in the dogleg....taking as much time as possible...so hopefully for my next shot the wind stops blowing or changes direction.

is it that same angle you can often get on #4 in the first bking? I struggle with second shot over that water on #4 in bking. I try and get my tee shot over on the right side of the fairway so the 2nd shot is closer to being straight up....instead of largely sideways. for some reason I can't make a nice and strong swing going sideways like I can up/down. I have the same track sensitivity for both so it should be the same....but doesn't seem like it.

yep, but that's the issue...smooth tracking. for such a small move that initial mouse register on my optical mouse could be a slightly different direction than where I am really moving the mouse.

ok, ease up there a tad. It's not like I'm a newbie. It's just not easy to birdie most of the holes which is what you must do to get to the 8th hole.

yeah, the way I see it is #1 and #2 are pretty much birdie holes.... #3 depends on wind... #4 I don't care if I just par it. #5 is must birdie hole. #6 is definitely a birdie hole...but both times I have gotten there I have had that horrible short angle for a birdie putt and missed it.

Also, I have only played it about 10-15 times... I don't know how much you have played it to get at the level you are at now.

I just know the settings should have been relaxed cuz in the arcade I used to play bking2 a lot and you would earn a hole for a par also...and 2 holes for a birdie...so if you could play even par golf you could pretty much get around the entire course.

...or at least set it so you get 5 starting hole/lives so a par here and there is ok.

I'm guessing though someone will get a hole-in-one on that 3rd hole which awards 9 holes. That's 90 points right there for MARP rules....that's a lot of points for 1 lucky stroke...which is why in the past I have argued against having the rules where luck of that magnitude is involved.

yes, for #1 in bking2 I have been in that greenside trap in 2 a couple times.

1 game I hit 2 "perfect" shots where I actually was OVER the green and OB in 2!!! ...what a waste of a powerful stroke....hehe

...in my post above when I referred to #6 and driving the fringe of the green once and made a long putt for eagle I obviously was referring to bking...not bking2....since in bking2 #6 is a short par 3.
