Since we're under time pressure here and don't want to hold the tournament up, I am fine with TP84, Shock Troopers, and SF2CE.

However I think excluding Twin Cobra is a needless strategic mistake.

Shock Troopers (shocktro)
Time Pilot '84 (tp84) - Use Difficulty Hard which is current MAME default
Street Fighter II Champion Edition (sf2ce)

Alternates:
Twin Cobra (twincobr)
Golden Axe (goldnaxe) - No Magic allowed - Use Strength for scoring
Black Widow (bwidow)

This is fine with me, though I really hope Turbo Outrun is confirmed elsewhere or I will be sad. Though I do prefer Twin Cobra to Time Pilot 84 personally and in terms of potential points, I'm ok with letting that go.

I'd do better with Twin Cobra over Time Pilot, but I understand that TP won the vote, and I'm fine with that.

Games have been submitted to Wolfman24. We submitted:

Games:

Shock Troopers (shocktro)

Time Pilot '84 (tp84) - Use Difficulty Hard which is current MAME default. In older versions of MAME (e.g. .106 and .101) you will need to change it to Difficulty Hard

Street Fighter II': Champion Edition (World 920313) (this is sf2ceea in the latest versions of MAME but is the old sf2ce parent romset if you are using .106)

Alternates:

Twin Cobra (twincobr)

Golden Axe (goldnaxe) - No Magic allowed - Use Strength for scoring

Black Widow (bwidow)

Thanks to everybody for helping us work through this!

We've got another 28 hours to recruit more members. We can register new members for Team MARP until June 30th 11:59PM EST(which is July 1st 3:59AM GMT)! So if you have any friends that haven't signed up yet, put some pressure on them to join the fun!

After that deadline, players can still join the tournament until July 7th 11:59PM EST, but they will be RANDOMLY assigned to a team.

I've also been told special rules include:

Bubble Bobble 2 and Rainbow Islands - No special codes allowed
10 Yard Fight - No leeching on Stage 1 like destructor does in his 1st place score at MARP

That's a fairly good spread of game styles. Quite a few that I like, but am not necessarily good at, so should be a fun tournament until a game gets 'owned' by too many people to make it worth competing on.

Also, most of them should run at full speed on the quite old PC that I currently have solely dedicated for Mame, so I shouldn't need to annoy the kids by 'taking over' one of our newer machines too often. :)

Cheers,
BeeJay.

1. There's no "Every 1000K" setting for the Bonus Life in Battle Garegga. The only choices are "None" and "Every 2000K".

2. Which BIOS do we use for Shock Troopers?

Tournament starts in less than forty minutes at 12AM Eastern Time tonight (4AM GMT)! A screenshot is strictly required for all scores, but let's lead by example and try to have WolfMAME .inp files for all MAME scores, and stream if you can.

Shock Troopers
ROMSet: shocktro and neogeo
Territory: USA (set bios to “US MVS”)

Updated Special Rules for Battle Garegga allow Mahou Daisakusen code:

Battle Garegga
ROMSet: bgaregga (0.117+) / battlega (before 0.117)
Difficulty: Medium / Normal
Flip screen: Off
Lives: 3
Bonus Life: None
Stage Edit: Off

Special Rules: This is a Single Player ONLY Variation! You may freely choose from any available ship. Mahou Daisakusen code IS allowed (Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, A, B, C, Start). Continues are NOT allowed!

An additional game was added by the tournament organizer:

Intrepid
ROMSet: intrepid
Invulnerability (Cheat): Off
Difficulty: Easy
Bonus Life: 10000
Lives: 5

Some clarification on how scoring works:

For each game, the top 5 scores for each team on that game are combined in a list which is sorted by score. We have 9 teams, so there will be 45 scores, 5 from each team. The 1st place score from that list gets 45 points, 2nd place gets 44 points, and so forth until the last place score gets 1 point. Each team's score on that game is the sum of the 5 scores for it's team. So a perfect team score on a game, for example Street Fighter 2, would be to have places 1-5 on that game which would score 45+44+43+42+41 = 215 points. The worse team score would occur if you get places 41-45 on the game and get only 5+4+3+2+1 = 15 points.

This is done for all 28 games. The total score for each team is the sum of their scores on all 28 games. So a perfect score would involve taking places 1-5 on every game and would be 215*28 = 6020 points.

Because of the way scoring works, most gains in points can be made by improving lower placed scores. If we can improve the placement for a score on a game from 3rd to 1st, it is only worth 2 points. But if we can improve on a game from 45th to 40th, which is probably easier to do, we pick up 5 points. In general poor placements on a game will hurt us more than 1st place scores will help us.

If you do not think you can get into the top 5 for MARP on a game, you should probably not spend time on that game. For example there is no way I will be top 5 for MARP on Street Fighter 2 so I should not spend any time playing it.

We have a lot of players so I suggest we start out by playing whatever we want to get familiar with the games, then analyze which games we have poor placements on as a team and find players willing to work on those games and that are talented at that type of game.

Good luck everyone and happy playing!

set bios to “US MVS"
Yes, I know that already, but which one? There are two, "US MVS (Ver. 1)" and "US MVS (Ver. 2?)". Or does it not matter?
