No mistake -- those games were on the approved archive list under casino (gambling) games. In fact, unkpacg has the word "gambling" in its title. We had all agreed to honor that list.
Re: Archive these games -topic
Thank you editors! Not only for making the decision and checking carefully, but also for the mole of manual work it took/will take.

Yes, they have the word "gambling" but its not about gambling, its pacman and tetris.***PL*** wrote:No mistake -- those games were on the approved archive list under casino (gambling) games. In fact, unkpacg has the word "gambling" in its title. We had all agreed to honor that list.
You can check them yourself.

New category in MARP "slot machine and card games" could be?
Hello guys, I guess you should consider the idea of making a new category of slot games and card games.
I think this types of games deserve a place in Marp.
Most of these games work correctly and I do not understand emulating a rom correctly so I can not raise the highest possible score to MARP
I'm sure there are thousands of slots roms and card games to emulate in the future and you would surely lose your number on ranking MARP.
I think this is unfair and you have to do different categories; I think we could vote to make different categories of games or put them all together...democracy always decides,right?
It is not fair that lovers of card games and slots, can not compete by raising the highest scores of these types of games.

There are still some of them in your page, German Krol's too. I guess editors will fix it .

UPDATE:
• archived all clones for Megatouch, Touchmaster and Pitboss games
• archived all [Trivia Whiz] splits for Megatouch and Pitboss games
• archived all [Super Trivia] splits for Pitboss games
• created splits for new parent tm2k (since clone tm2ka was archived)
Again, we are still reviewing ALL Megatouch, Touchmaster and Pitboss games (some will remain, some will be archived)

Great job.
Still some gamblings remain in gc, el wil and phil.
megat2a-mem
megat4stg
megat4te
And what about all these mahjongs(Phil has about 150), do they belong in the "luck" category?

Just because a game exists in MAME, does not mean it's suitable for competition.el wil wrote:New category in MARP "slot machine and card games" could be?

Slot machines and card games are not interesting games for competition because they're primarily luck-based. And more importantly, they're not interesting for people to actually WATCH. Remember that while MARP is a place for high score competition, it started as a replay archive. People want to be able to download replays of interesting scores, and enjoy the time and skill that goes into those replays. Also note these games have never been (and should never be) used in tournaments.
You singlehandedly flooded the uploads page with ~200 replays of gambling games in the span of a day, pushing everything else that had been uploaded recently off. Replays of games that people actually put some time and effort into. And for what? To climb the leaderboard with a bunch of gambling replays nobody wants to watch? The vast majority of your replays on MARP haven't been confirmed because... well, who wants to watch those?
Technically you can still upload to these games on MARP, their entries haven't disappeared entirely. But obviously you were only in it for the sake of the leaderboard, so of course this kills motivation. Democracy always decides? Well, read the posts in this thread to understand how many people were against gambling games. You're pretty much the only one that wants them to count on the leaderboard, for obvious reasons. We're sorry you wasted your time recording hundreds of these games just to have them not count on the leaderboard, but... maybe you can find something among the thousands of other games emulated by MAME that would result in a replay worth watching?

Doesn't pretty much same apply to Mahjong...BBH wrote: Just because a game exists in MAME, does not mean it's suitable for competition.

Furthermore I'd argue that Mahjong is based on luck and strategy around equally as much as, say, 'Solitaire'. The basic idea of Solitaire and Mahjong is the same: Picking a matching card/tile which frees cards/tiles underneath. Which card/tile you pick is strategy while which card/tile gets revealed underneath is luck.
It's more complicated Solitaire with tiles really. I think Mahjong games should be archived as well.

Mahjong i.m.o. have more strategy in itself, plus you can use many sort of options in Mahjong games with increase much more the strategy dimension.
This said, solitaire also involves thinking.
All theses games are ranked in the file you've provided under "tabletop" section with games such as chess, othello, ataxx, renju & many others classic of mind games.
They don't fit in the category "100% luck".

Re: Archive these games -topic
So why don't we have poker then as tournament entry, or chess, or Mahjong...
None of these board/card games are actual video games, despite being played using a computer.
If we 'ban' solitaire and poker from leaderboard, we should do the same for mahjong and checkers.

Mahjong is easy to pick up, hard to master.
Requires hundreds and hundreds of playtime hours.
Requires decisional awareness, statistical analysis, hand reading, a bit of luck.
Last part isn't even uncommon in Arcade games, Trog is the first example that comes to mind.
The only one thing that screws us up a bit is that 2-player mahjong uses fixed tilesets so it's easy to make a rigged game in CPU favour, but even then there are tons of things you can actually do to lower rank, which in a case-by-case scenario could be:
* closing before opponent if possible;
* calling a single tile to swap turns;
* close for less points in previous hands;
* Call/Not Call power-ups before round where applicable;
* Making tsumogiri a.k.a. passing each single tile in a single round;
* insert more credits but play only first (yeah helps, just like Armed Police Batrider mind you);
* Last but not least, play better and who knows what else (your decisional timer?)
