Don't know if this was known or not but it looks like the current parent to 1942 no longer has that extra life bug.
- 0.124u4: Quarterarcade added clone '1942 (Williams Electronics license)'. Changed clone '(set 3)' to parent '1942 (Revision B)', '1942 (set 1)' to clone '1942 (Revision A)' and '(set 2)' to '1942 (First Version)'. Renamed (1942b) to (1942), (1942) to (1942a) and (1942a) to (1942b).
Playing 1942a, which was previously 1942 I can activate the bug. Never knew this was fixed in a later version. Makes the early game slightly easier but not a huge deal for most players. Haven't seen this fixed romset in a real machine before.

Re: 1942 extra life bug
I think all versions have this issue.
effort to avoind until you get 960K extended.
95+,specially 100% destruction are dangerous.

I also thought this, but I can confirm the current parent does not have the bug. See attached wolfmame 168 inp, 71K to 94K after second stage, I still get an extra life.

Re: 1942 extra life bug
I remember. Jumped 80K and 90K at time, sometimes extra system does not kill. do not know why.
need some experiment...
need 70K-80K after stage 2. and destroy 95%+.

Re: 1942 extra life bug
I'm going to put this here for those not already familiar with this bug. (This is something Novice really should've done himself though, considering I'm quoting from him.
) Beware the bad English though:

Presumably, the only way to stop the bug after it's been triggered would be to rollover the score back to zero, which I am certain is completely impossible to do legally. If there's a version of the game that is confirmed not to have this bug, then the special rules should be changed to state which versions are bugged and which aren't."add 1 ship" when "first time to <8th(10M) and 7th(1M) digits of score are ZERO. and 6th(100K) and 5th(10K) digits of score as extra points.>".
Example.
240,000 points is an extra points.
you will usually get an extra ship when your score over 240,000 points.
but "to above 240,000 points" is not essential matter.
you can get an extra ship when your 6th digits become "2" and 5th digits become "4" for the first time.
and extra points will be changed when this action does.
If you jump over "the score which can satisfy this" , then you will never get an extra ship any more.
If you get 100% destruction and 3 rolls remaining (53,000 points) when you have 220,000 points.
your score will be 273,000. your score never become 24*,***.
if so, you can not get any new ship even if you reach next extra points (320,000) .

Re: 1942 extra life bug
I also tried.
extend stopped as expected.
we have to avoid to get 95%+ at stage 2.
I do not know why your extend kept alive.

Re: 1942 extra life bug
Your inp from mame 0.106 was done using romset 1942. To see the fixed bug in that version of MAME you need to use romset 1942b. After version 0.124u4, the clone romset 1942b was renamed to 1942.
