TimeTrial 2015 - Round 4 [qix]
Round 4 of 5
Qix (Rev 2)
by Taito, 1981
ROMsets needed: qix
Genre: Puzzle / Outline
GOAL: Complete first 6 Screens.
A screen is successfully completed if you encounter one of these two conditions:
-you claim 75% of playfield or more
-(from third screen) you split the 2 Qix into two different areas
Parameter to count for tournament score: Total number of frames.
The first frame is always determined by the first frame in which you see the Player's mark appear, like in the screenshot showed above.
The final frame is determined by the exact moment in which you claim 75% of playfield, or get score for splitting the 2 Qix, on last completed screen.
When you submit your recording, you are not obliged to give a precise count of frames - that's my job I will have to do it anyway. You can give an approximate total. To view the frame count in MAME, press F11.
NOTES ABOUT RUNNING THE GAME PROPERLY
This is the text description for Special Rules described in MARP:
To skip the "factory settings" screens, you must press 5 times the F1 key at the beginning of your input to make sure it will playback o.k.
GENERAL RULES FOR ALL GAMES
MAME version to use: WolfMAME 0.156
You can submit either to the forums or MARP. On MARP, you must include the text TT2015 in description. Score for submission must be your real in-game score, the total frames can be told in the description
No recording can be uploaded 24 hours after you recorded it. INPs older than that will be disqualified
Default settings
Time remaining: Until GMT 23:59 Jan. 30th (click here)
Tournament scoreboard: (click here)
Have fun!

Re: TimeTrial 2015 - Round 4 [qix]
Obviously time is up for uploading scores for Aurail - I have to check last score(s) and then update the Scoreboard.

Re: TimeTrial 2015 - Round 4 [qix]
Scoreboard updated - the tournament ranking after 3 rounds is as follows:
1st) Dax, 61 pts
2nd) Dalar, 46 pts
3rd) Paulo Valmir, 45 pts
4th) Phil Lamat, 37 pts
5th) (tie) Bad Dad Jokes & INNUENDO, 34 pts
7th) Sawys, 32 pts
8th) (tie) C.Hatchett & TheBSM, 29 pts
10th) CrazyKongFan, 16 pts
11th) Colman Paolo, 11 pts
12th) Agodzilla, 8 pts
13th) Xelnia, 7 pts
About this round, just a few, easy, for some of you obvious, suggestions for your playing:
-This is kind of valid for any game you play on a time attack mode, if it's troublesome for you to reach the end of required stages, don't force yourself to go at max speed and focus on clearing game successfully. Especially in this game, since the randomness of Qix's movements, you may be stuck in some points and have to wait for a safe escape... searching a better pattern may be easier than running like desperate taking a lot of risks.
-There is no bonus life awarded during the game, so it's pointless to play for score -> and so to use the slow draw button.
-All screens are similar and there's no box that shows how many screen you have completed. Thus it may be helpful to find a method to remember in which screen you are, to avoid to interrupt too early a good game.

I admit it is more fun for me firstly. After 8 games of no puzzles in T13 and 3 in TT2015... it had to come out
Fun because I know it is a quick game so players have chances to give it more tries and who knows what cool performances can be sorted out.

Re: TimeTrial 2015 - Round 4 [qix]
Checking now all scores and then updating.
Good news for next game coming at round 5: instead of forcing MARP uploaders to give a score on MARP of zero for their recordings (since there will be no score on regular mode), we will have a special entry just for this tournament round. (thanks Pat!)

Re: TimeTrial 2015 - Round 4 [qix]
Cleared round 5 this time. Start 666, end approx 14900. Anyone else having trouble with speed? It shows I averaged 95% so I guess it's ok. Seems especially bad after round 2 when you have 2 stix on the screen zipping around.
