Ready Player One

Somewhere for the annoying and/or off-topic threads to go. Feel free to post about whatever, but abuse will still be dealt with, and possibly with more force. Especially pac-porno. ;)

Ready Player One

Post by The TJT »

Just finished the science fiction novel by Ernest Cline called Ready Player One (2011)

Awesome!

Perfect mix of fictional virtual reality of the future and 80s pop culture. Especially for people who loved 80's video games. I almost pissed in my pants when they mentioned "Ladyhawke", "The Legend", "Astrosmash" (Mattel Intellivision game, I actually owned this title) and "Discs of Tron" inside a couple minute stretch.

The film Wargames (probably my all-time favourite) was an essential plot device in it. As were some 80's arcade and console games. 70's, 80s music and RPG also played a big role... as I assume most people here are into that kind of "retro" stuff - this book is for you. Us. A must read for every retro gamer.

Hell, it almost had too much name dropping in it. I recommend the audio book version, read by Will Wheaton (ensign Wesley Crusher) who did an excellent job! You can find the torrent here:

I think about one of the two arcades I visited in '87 at kings island amusement park - 2 karnov machines , Victory road, 3 Eliminator , multiple versions of stuff like
section z , commando , a whole row of pinballs Black knight , black hole , Joust , zenon , Tron?
but anyway... May 31st 2014
I went to the movies at the mall recently and saw Godzilla with 3d glasses
first time I went there in 15 years for Jurrassic park 2 ( of course)
and after wards I just about peed my pants
when I saw

Pac-Man's Arcade Party (30th Anniversary machine for Pac-Man)

Released in 2010, this was made to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Pac-Man and goes by the name Pac-Man's Arcade Party (not to be confused with the party video game Pac-Man Party). This edition includes Pac-Man, Galaga, Dig Dug, Xevious, Mappy, Rally-X, Galaxian, Bosconian, Rolling Thunder, Dragon Spirit, Galaga '88, and Pac-Mania. There is a version of the machine made for homes that also includes Ms. Pac-Man. All of the games in this collection also appear in Namco Museum 50th Anniversary for home consoles and PC, but the machine doesn't include Sky Kid or Pole Position I and II.
I played dragon spirit and got 37,000 at stage 2
the arcade stick was super stiff and could hardly manuvuer it.
it cost 50 cents
also played Terminator 3 with my older brother
that game is real loud and scared all the people around us off!
it is sorta like A Call of Duty
I hate those games but oh well,
you never know til you try it.
