Time Trial 2013 - Announcement and Rules
Hallo MARPers,
Here's the presentation of the next Time Trial tournament, year 2013.
I like very much this kind of competition: playing without bother in leeching or sacrifices can revive a nice game not suitable for score attack, and often it needs a deep planning too. I also hope that someone of you will even try to improve his result for fun after the tournament.
So let's take a look at the rules, I've tried to make them as simple as possible.
RULES
1) Five games, five weeks, one game each week. No breaks between games.
2) Each turn will start at 00:00:00 GMT of a Sunday, and will end at 23:59:59 GMT of a Saturday. First round will start on October 27th 00:00:00 GMT.
3) Games chosen by me, I'll reveal each title slightly before the beginning of the turn.
4) Feel free to submit to the main MARP site or here in the forum, possibly with an estimate of the frames you played. (See ***Technical note a*** to know how to count frames).
5) Each game will worth a score, according to this table (yes, it's the table from MotoGP):
1st - 25pts
2nd - 20pts
3rd - 16pts
4th - 13pts
5th - 11pts
6th - 10pts
7th - 9pts
8th - 8pts
9th - 7pts
10th - 6pts
11th - 5pts
12th - 4pts
13th - 3pts
14th - 2pts
15th - 1pt
16th+ - 0pt
6) The sum of the points achieved by a player will go in the final scoreboard. In case of a tie read ***Technical note b***.
7) Wolfmame 150 only is allowed, minimum recording speed 95%. Delete NVRAM before recording, as usual.
8) Recordings must be uploaded up to 24 hours after they were made. Run when playing, run when submitting.
SCHEDULE
Round 1 - October 27th 00:00:00 GMT - November 2nd 23:59:59 GMT
Round 2 - November 3rd 00:00:00 GMT - November 9th 23:59:59 GMT
Round 3 - November 10th 00:00:00 GMT - November 16th 23:59:59 GMT
Round 4 - November 17th 00:00:00 GMT - November 23th 23:59:59 GMT
Round 5 - November 24th 00:00:00 GMT - November 30th 23:59:59 GMT
TECHNICAL NOTES
a) How to count frames.
Frames are counted from the moment you take control of the character to the moment you reach the goal or complete your highest stage before Game Over. Uncompleted stages won't count. Scoreboards will count on completed stages first, and then on the best time needed to complete them. You can see in realtime the frame number by pressing F11.
b) How ties will be resolved.
Only ties in 1st/2nd/3rd positions will be resolved, all other cases will result.... in a tie.
To resolve podium ties I'll count the number of games won in a head to head way (player1 beat player2 in 3 games out of 5, player1 gets the higher position).
If the tie persists (maybe if more players are in draw condition) I'll temporary discard the worst score of each player until there will be no more tie.
COMMENTS
Ok, I guess that some of you are complaining about the wolf150-only rule now. Please think about the fact that Wolf106 is 7+ years old, it's good to switch to an updated version. The emulation of almost all games has been modified and improved so far, furthermore new versions are able to configure some modern joypad that old versions (i.e. Wolf106) don't.
Let me say that obviously you'll have from me all the help I will able to give, I'll also provide ready-to-use batch files for each game and instruct you on how to modify them with peculiar options (rotate screen, video options, etc.) when necessary.
Well, I think it's all, please let us know if you are going to join in, have fun and wait for the first title!

Count me in
no matter if I will be so able to come out with great performances, but I really liked last time trial I tried, and I like more the score system of yours (same importance given to any round).

And how about resolving ties with date(s) of submission ?RAX wrote: b) How ties will be resolved.

...
it would --maybe-- discourage submissions at last moment

Good point for single game ties.Phil Lamat wrote:And how about resolving ties with date(s) of submission ?

In the rules I was mainly thinking to final board ties, it should (??) be unlikely to have fromecount ties. At least I hope so
