some games don't work....

hi chaps,
there are many games i have that do not work, even though others have submitted and using the same MAME as myself.
for example, "bucaner", a pac man clone, will not work for me. it tells me "required files are missing".
which files? TAR got it to work, ok. any clues TAR?

I'm pretty sure "required files are missing" means that you romset is incorrect or out of date, or you're missing the BIOS.

that was something else i was gonna ask.
the only "extra" file i ever used was the "neo geo" one. i've never used a bios file, nor a chd.
fyi, the bucaner rom i used is the latest, from Oct 29, 2012.

Buccaneer wouldn't require a BIOS, but it may have a color (or other) PROM recently added that's now required.

The smaller ROMs appear to be the same as those used in puckman, so you'll need puckman.zip also if you are missing those ones.

And remember that if the ROMs are in a zipfile, the filename is irrelevant, it will load them by CRC.

ok, my "pacman" rom has the necessary files (4 files), but i cannot copy them to the bucaner folder....

Ok, the filenames for buccaneer don't match, but this is only an issue if the ROMs are not zipped.

You'll want the all the puckman ROMs in puckman.zip (this is the parent set, MAME will check here for ROMs if not found in bucaner.zip), and what you have for bucaner should be in bucaner.zip.

If the ROMs are not zipped, then the filenames must match.

i could not do what you said. so instead, i renamed my "pacman" zip to "puckman", as puckman had only 4 files, but pacman had ALL the files, hangly man, ghostmuncher, etc. worked 1st time!!!
