Playback problems... AGAIN!!!

Post by stephen krogman »

Now I can't get Hisa chan's Starforce recording to playback?! There is no nvram to delete and the only think I can think of is it has to be played back with sound ON instead of off. If that's the case, here's the problem I have with sound when running mame in dos.

I get this error evertime when turning on sound to record or playing back an inp. Through windows, sound works fine. Can anyone help me on this one???

Here's the error:

Unable to play sound - The creative ES1370 Wave Device is in use by another application.

I use to run it fine with sound for the longest time, then I had to reinstall windows 98 (from 95 which is what I had) and now I get this sound error. Again, sound works fine when running mame through windows (mame32) and I can play music and that sort of stuff but not some midi files.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Steve Krogman

I suggest shutting down off the start menu going to MS-DOS mode
instead of selecting 'shut down' or 'restart'.

Let me know if this fixes your problem. GB9

Usually if you get sound device is used by another application there
IS another application that failed to close the sound device
properly. The latest Napster version is notorious for this, beta 6
seemed to be good about this but beta 7 seems to latch on to the
audio device now and again (Even when you've named another
application to play sounds.)

other windows programs might be able to play sounds when the audio
device is locked because windows sometimes "mixes" new application
sounds into currently existing applications, but mame doesn't have
the power to do this.
